The centre of Barwick-in-Elmet is the location of an 86ft-tall maypole. This is reckoned to be the second tallest maypole in Britain, pipped at the post, you might say, by the 88ft specimen at Nun Monkton, North Yorkshire.

She believed Jesus was always with her, when travelling by bus always bought two tickets, and refused to let anyone sit on the apparently empty seat

I think that is what they call the Anthropomorphist Heresy.

Pateley Bridge in North Yorkshire also lies on the line of the River Nidd.

Pateley Bridge claims to have the oldest sweet shop in the world. Oxford, I think, claims to have the smallest gift shop in the world -- the Old Sheep Shop ("Alice" reference).

London Welsh RFC moved to the Kassam Stadium, Oxford in 2012 to fulfil their English Premiership entry criteria regarding stadium capacity. At the end of the 2015 season, following relegation, the club left Oxford and returned to Old Deer Park, Richmond-upon-Thames.

The Church of St Andrew, Netherton is an Anglican parish church that was designed by Thomas Lee (1794 - 1834) and opened in 1830, becoming the parish church for Netherton in 1844. In 1826, Thomas Lee designed the Guildhall in Barnstaple, which was finished 1828; it is currently being restored and makes an impressive frontage for the later Pannier Market.

Another settlement with long-exhausted coal pits on adjacent moorland is Horwich, Greater Manchester.

Droylsden is on the route of the Ashton canal, which runs between central Manchester and a junction with the Huddersfield Narrow Canal at Ashton-under-Lyne.

Gomersal was the filming location for a number of scenes in the long-running period drama Heartbeat. The series was filmed at various locations around North Yorkshire, including exterior scenes of Aidensfield being filmed in the village of Goathland.

Kirkby Malzeard has one pub, the Queens Head. A second pub, The Henry Jenkins, was named after a man from Ellerton-on-Swale who died in 1670, allegedly aged 169; however, it closed in June 2008.
