Ditchling has links with Rowland Emett -- who tends to be most loved by the likes of us, for his (as Wiki rather delightfully puts it) "unique concept of bumbling trains with excessively tall chimneys and silly names". There is a permanent exhibition of representative examples of Emett's work at Stoneywish Nature Reserve in Ditchling. The Victoria Centre, Nottingham, holds an elaborate -- working -- water-powered clock designed by Emett.

St. Edmund's Church, Wootton, has a pipe organ which dates from 1869. It was originally installed in St Andrew's Church, Norton Green, near Freshwater and was moved to St Edmund's in the early 1980s when St Andrew's became redundant.

There is another Norton Green -- also in itself, a very small settlement -- situated in Stoke-on-Trent.

An association which is "reaching" to a rather extreme degree: one of North-East England's best-known and -loved folk songs is Cushie Butterfield: concerning the not-very-hopeful love of a River Tyne boatman, for a young lady, name as in song title, resident in Gateshead and whose occupation is the selling of yellow clay. The surname -- if no other characteristics whatever -- is shared by the present-day Butterfield Bank: headquarters in St. Peter Port, Guernsey.

Stornoway Town Hall is a former municipal building on South Beach in the town. It is a Category B listed building, and was designed by John Robertson of Inverness in the Gothic Revival style. Another building designed by John Robertson is Tobermory Parish Church.

In the late 20th century, North Petherton officially became a town; having previously claimed to be the largest village in England. There are now several claimants for that status; one of them being Broughton Astley, Leicestershire -- between Leicester and Loughborough.

'Ferndean Manor' in Charlotte Bronte's novel Jane Eyre is thought to be based on Wycoller Hall. The Bronte Way passes through Wycoller and also through Thornton, where the Brontë children were born, and Haworth where the family lived.

The Black Bull Inn is situated behind St Peter's Church on Kirkgate. Its upstairs room was once used as a magistrate's court for Birstall and Gomersal, and is now Grade 2 listed. Another Black Bull Inn can be visited at Lowick, Northumberland.

The route of the south-to-north Roman road called the Devil's Causeway (now largely obliterated) passes also through Hartburn, Northumberland (west of Morpeth).
