In the (highly unusual) tornado outbreak on November 23rd 1981, over many parts of England and Wales; the above-bolded settlement was the centre of one such, of medium force. In that episode, West Mersea (Essex) was struck by a tornado of a similar degree of intensity.

Flailing around, rather; but, in medieval times the above-bolded settlement is reckoned to have been bigger than now (first recorded in 1050 as Scurafaton). In a more extreme version of the same phenomenon: a little way from Wharram-le-Street (once again in North Yorkshire), there was in medieval times the village of Wharram Percy -- a site now totally deserted.

Norfolk is well-known for odd pronunciations of place-names, with apparently only a tenuous relation to the spelling. The above-bolded settlement is generally pronounced "Hazeboro' "; the second word of Little Hautbois, near Aylsham, is pronounced "Hobbiz".

The Church of Little Hautbois was once owned by the monks of St Benet's Abbey at Holme or Hulme, but fell into ruin in the 15th century when the parish was amalgamated with that of Lamas. One of the abbey's great benefactors was Sir John Fastolf, the inspiration for Shakespeare's Falstaff. He died at Caister in December 1459, and was buried at St Benet's.

Cartmel was the favourite holiday spot of the Lancashire dialect writer and BBC broadcaster, Thomas Thompson, who wrote sixteen books on Lancashire people and their communities. He was born and died in Bury.
The people of the above-bolded settlement have long taken pride in considering it the place of manufacture of these islands' best black pudding. There is a rival to that claim, in the form of Macleod's Black Pudding: made in Stornoway, Lewis, Western Isles.

Lerwick is the focus of most events in Shetland, including the largest of the annual Up Helly-Aa fire festivals which takes place on the last Tuesday of January every year. Another festival takes place in the village of Uyeasound on the Isle of Unst, the northernmost island of the Shetland Isles.
