The village was the birthplace of Wyn Roberts, Baron Roberts of Conwy, who was a notable Conservative front bench politician for many years. He died on 13th December 2013, at his home in the village of Rowen, Conwy.

The parish of Brocton has a football club, Brocton FC, who are currently members of the Midland League Division One. Although carrying the local name, they currently play at Silkmore Lane in Stafford.

It was the London "Richmond" which I took to show as different from the one much further to the north. I thought that the title that I used for that settlement was historically once used. The church name is St Elizabeth of Portugal.

Great Plumpton is part of the civil parish of Westby-with-Plumptons, Lancashire. The parish is in Fylde district and also contains the hamlet of Lower Ballam amongst others.

Newton (or Newton-with-Scales) is situated on the A583, which connects Preston with Blackpool. After passing through the village, it bypasses the town of Kirkham, although the original route was through the town before the bypass was built.

The British comedian, actor and comic writer Stanley Unwin was born on 7th June 1911 in Pretoria, South Africa and by 1919, had been sent to the National Children's Home in Congleton. He died at Danetre Hospital in Daventry on 12th January 2002, and is buried in the churchyard at St Lawrence's Church in Long Buckby, Northamptonshire.

The parish church, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, dates from the late 13th century and is now grade II* listed. Since 2006, the parish has formed part of the Lambfold Benefice, together with the parishes of Blakesley, Maidford, Litchborough and Adstone.

The actor John Laurie, famous for his portrayal of Private Fraser in the sitcom Dad's Army between 1968 and 1977 was born in Dumfries on 25th March 1897. He died, aged 83, at Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire on 25th March 1980.
