The Physician, Naturalist and Ornithologist Edward Wilson, who died in 1912 on Captain Robert Scott's ill-fated British Antarctic expedition, had earlier practised as a doctor in Paddington. Born in Cheltenham on 23rd July 1872, Wilson was the second son and fifth child of Physician Edward Thomas Wilson and his wife, Mary Agnes. His mother was a poultry breeder and he spent much of his youth at The Crippetts farm, Leckhampton near Cheltenham.
