Doe Lea also has a fine example of an Elizabethan mansion....Hardwick Hall
Not wanting to be picky but that Elizabethan Mansion is in the Lincolnshire Doddington, my Doddington was the Fenland one.
I am having a rather bad afternoon of things today. It does help if the name of the county...rather than an area...is named when there are more than one settlement with the same name involved.
I shall "strike-through" my posting in order that someone else can respond to your posting of Doddington
You're probably quite right, my Doddington is in the Fenland county council area but Cambridgeshire is it's county.
You can also become a Brownie in Doddington (Fenland)
The Monarch's Way clue leads me to conclude it's the Goodwood in West Sussex which now figures. Goodwood House was designed by James Wyatt, who also designed St Michael's Church, Ceredigion.
Is this the same St Michael's church in the hamlet of TREMAIN in the area of Ceredigon ?
I feel that Ceredigon is the name of the County Council....not a settlement as such.
...now, my atlas declares that there are two places called Southbourne, and two places called Westbourne - and that each Southbourne has a Westbourne in close proximity! This clue links to whichever Southbourne Paul was referring to (I assume the one in Bournemouth).
The A1158, a notable urban route through the western half of Southend, is formed of two nearby parallel roads which are largely one-way. One is called Southbourne Grove, the other is called Westbourne Grove. And as with the pair of roads, Southbourne is seemingly never far from Westbourne.
