Might be my rural Yorkshire dialect coming through, but I've seen the word "wellund" used as a generic "dunce, brainless idiot" swear. I only heard it around farming circles though, and perhaps was a mutation of the much more well known swear starting with B and ending in endGrizedale Hall at Grizedale, Cumbria -- south of Hawkshead -- was also in World War II, the site of a specialised kind of camp for German prisoners-of-war. Hard-core Nazis were concentrated at Watten; Grizedale Hall's "clientele" were largely senior officers in the German armed forces, including many submarine officers: the camp was unofficially styled "The U-Boat Hotel".
(Answer not demanded; but -- maybe I'm thick, and / or a thorough innocent; I can perhaps see how the Scottish river is one letter away from being a swearword; but the one in England -- ??)
Anyway!
Delamere, Cheshire, also gives its name to a large forest park which has a GoApe adventure course in it.
