Richmond was formerly known as Shene; its name was changed when it (and its palace) was acquired by Henry VII, erstwhile Earl of Richmond (Yorks). Another place whose name was changed by kingly whim was Wyke upon Hull, now Kingston upon Hull.

Dudley has a town-twinning arrangement with another UK settlement --something decidedly rare, but there are a few instances. Cases of this, involving a settlement in England; and another in a different country of the United Kingdom: are Dudley and Fort William, Highland; and (looking re association, at the respective English settlements) Ludlow, Shropshire; and Narberth, Pembrokeshire.

Lower Peover in Cheshire West and Chester also has a church that is dedicated to St Oswald.
I believe that "Peover" here, is pronounced -- locally, and standard-ly -- not as spelt; but "Peever". Resemblance borne here to Belvoir, Leicestershire: which -- with its contiguous Vale, in which is set Belvoir Castle -- is pronounced "Beaver" (like the animal).

). Burton Coggles has a pub called the Cholmeley Arms. There is in Cheshire a -- very well-spoken-of -- pub called the Cholmondeley Arms: in the parish (not a "settlement proper") of Cholmondeley, a little way south-west of Nantwich -- nearest settlement would seem to be Wrenbury-cum-Frith.

The Panacea Society was founded in 1919 in Bedford by followers of the prophet Joanna Southcott; they believed that the town was on the site of the Garden of Eden, and they maintained a house for the use of Jesus at the Second Coming.

!) Redditch, Worcestershire, is also twinned with a settlement kind-of toward the eastern side of Africa. Glastonbury's "twin" is Lalibela, Ethiopia (a renowned sacred site in that country); Redditch's is Mtwara, Tanzania.
