The Treaty of Pipton, signed in 1265, centred essentially on English and Welsh parties coming to an agreement; to do with the minor civil war at that time, involving both countries, and dynastic factions. Somewhat later in history, another treaty ending a period of armed conflict concerning England and a Celtic neighbour country: marked the finish of the war between England and Scotland, 1543 -- 51, known as the "Rough Wooing" (Henry VIII taking drastic measures to try to effect a marriage between his young son Edward; and the child Mary Queen of Scots -- the marriage never happened). This was the Treaty of Norham, Northumberland -- south-west of Berwick-upon-Tweed, very near the border.
