Settle - Carlisle

Hello All

I am a new member, James, from Dorset. I have always had an interest in trains but only now am I starting to pursue it a bit more.

We (me and family) are looking at hiring a cottage alongside the Settle-Carlisle line at Garsdale over Christmas. Could someone please point me in the right direction to find out what trains are scheduled to run along that line?

if you go to this website and enter Settle and Carlisle as the stations then just select a date and time it will tell you what trains are running between those stations. If you are interested in freight or specials then you would be better off giving a date and someone might have some info for you.

See Leeds-Carlisle timetable (PDF format). Trains are usually worked by Class 158s. You will also see some Class 66s on freight trains, including coal trains.

Make sure you visit the Wensleydale Railway, they will be operating 'Santa Specials' during the Christmas period, and operate rather more interesting trains, at the moment they are running some trains with Class 20s.

The S&C was a lot more interesting in 2004!(was it really that long ago now? )

The first Sunday service to Carlisle is booked for 153+153+153

Some 158 workings are strengthened with a 153 as well

If anyone is interested, the Sunday Dalesrail trains have been booked for a 156+158 and a 156. Alas only about once a year do we get a 150 deputising for inferior traction!
