I'm thinking of taking the Settle & Carlisle line in the summer, can someone tell me what type of DMU Northern usually put on this service? RTT shows it as 150/153/155/156, is it usually at least a 2 car Sprinter? If it's a line where Pacers can appear I won't bother - I'm not doing 3 hours Leeds - Carlisle on a Pacer!

Thanks

The open data used by sites such as Open Train Times and Realtimetrains does not include unit allocations. The data you refer to is just a timing load.

Without knowing what exact train(s) you wish to take, it's difficult to say, but all my recent journeys on this line have been 158s.

Thanks for the reply. It would most likely be either the 0917 or 1049 departures from Leeds

Everything should be a 158. Sometimes with a 153 tacked on to provide extra capacity. If anything else produces then Neville Hill are desperately short of units.

You could always mix it up by doing an emu to Skipton and changing there.

I would definitely change at Skipton (if time permits and it doesn't cause you to miss an onward service) heading towards Leeds and I have done this several times, but I'd be far less inclined to do so out of Leeds, to obtain a good seat.

The 09:17 is more often than not a 158, sometimes with a 153 attached.

I've never seen a Pacer on, but I have seen two dogboxes attached doing the full run

As others have said, the S&Cs are almost always covered by 158s with the odd 153 tagged on (this seems to happen more in summer, not sure if it will be the case this year). Other units covering this are very, very rare from what I see on my daily commute.
