Settle and Carlisle railway photography advice

Hi folks

I am currently planning a trip over to England on 30/31 December 2010 to try and get a few shots of the winter cumbrian mountain express.

I was thinking of trying to get the tour at the Ribblehead viaduct, similar to this picture: http://kevindelaney877.fotopic.net/p63857825.html

Does anyone know if the train in this picture is travelling from the Carlisle direction?

Also does anyone know if there is much freight on this line and would there be much chance of freight running during the holiday period?

Hi.
The train in the photo is heading south ( ex Kirkby Thore ).
There are quite a few coal services over the line and at around 2pm or so, you'll see 6K05 Kingmoor to Basford Hall infrastructure service heading south too.
Colas are running wood trains out of the sidings at Ribblehead but im not sure of the frequency or times.

That train is going southbound, and just a short walk from the railway station.

Random long shot, but are you the Mike of Belfast who so unfortunately had to donate a 'Kernow Growler' ticket to me??

If it's THIS excursion then you might be struggling for light at Ribblehead as it will be after 16.00 when it crosses plus it'll only be crawling.
You'd be be better off somewhere before the water stop at Appleby.
