I'd like all local services in Yorkshire to run acout an hour later than they do now.

A more frequent service on the Whitby branch.

A train from Lancaster to Leeds at about 20:30.

A service from Ashford to Charing Cross going non-stop to Tonbridge.

A Tweedbank to Glasgow Central service could be good and save people changing at Waverley.

A Tweedbank to Glasgow Central service could be good and save people changing at Waverley.

Problem is that they probably still will transfer at Edinburgh. It's usually slightly faster to change, and the perception of speed on the Falkirk route always attracts passengers. Besides, it seems rather wasteful to run the DMUs under wires (as will soon be the case on all routes between Glasgow and Edinburgh) for c50 miles to link the Borders to Glasgow, which probably isn't a massive market (i.e. a transfer in Waverley is acceptable).

I'd like a service from Overton to wherever I want to go (and back again at a suitable time). It would be run by Cross Country and start from Southampton, travelling west and then via Romsey and the Laverstock curve near Salisbury. It would run daily, coming through Overton at about 10 am. Normally, its destination would be York, but when I wanted to use it, which would be about once every two months, it would be diverted to wherever I wanted to go.

Some people may consider this suggestion is selfish and unrealistic, but I think it matches the spirit of this thread.

I'd also suggest Crosscountry services from Cardiff to Glasgow/Edinburgh and Bournemouth to Edinburgh, providing there's stock and paths availabe.

For purely personal reasons I'd like to see the reintroduction of the through service from Leeds via Batley and Dewsbury to Sheffield. If there could be more than just one per day, even better, along with a service in the other direction. Of course that isn't going to happen, especially with the changes coming to the Standedge route. Given those changes I do hope that the current teatime extra Sheffield service (currently formed from an in-bound service from Leeds via Bradford) will be retained, though the current juggling that happens at Huddersfield to allow it (The via Dewsbury arrival forms the next Bradford service allowing the Sheffield extra to run, and the arrival from Southport runs through to Leeds via Dewsbury). As the only Northern services from Huddersfield will be the Sheffield, Castleford and Bradford services, the only way of forming the extra service will be to either keep a unit idle in Huddersfield sidings (which would be rather wasteful) or to provide over-capacity on an inbound Cas or Bratfud service to get a unit in position.

I welcome any service that renders the buffer stops at both Ormskirk and Kirkby obsolete whether Merseyrail come upto Wigan and Preston or some other fix as discussed to death in previous thread on this topic.

I'd like on XC train per hour to extend beyond Reading to Guildford. I'd greatly appreciate it. Also if it were extended beyond Guildford that might be popular... :P

But on a serious not the occasionally mooted Gatwick-Guildford-Reading-Oxford service would be great. Although thinking about it if we were to rebuild the Guildford to Horsham line and route it that way that would be even better. Also I've often though that extending at least one Portsmouth direct train and hour to Southampton would be good.

My wish list includes:

- XC services that ran from the North East to Southampton and Bournemouth

- A faster way of connecting Bristol and Bournemouth by train

I'd like to see the north Mersey branch reopened. Allowing service between Liverpool or even Hunts Cross to Aintree via Litherland Linacre Rd, Orrel Road and Ford.

I would also like to see Southport to Liverpool services become express between Sandhills and Waterloo. Like in the old days with four tracks.

Also, Southport, Formby, Hightown Edge Hill via Bootle Branch.

Perhaps even replacing the Cheshire Lines route to Lord street between Lord Street and Ainsdale. Connecting to the Liverpool, Crosby and Southport route where the CLC line previously passed over it. Thus providing service to the Floral Quarter from Liverpool during the flower show or air show.

Burscough curves for Southport to Ormskirk and Preston services.

Trams to replace buses. Bus drivers who leave stops early to be shot.

A halt between Formby and Freshfield behind my house.

Non stop service Euston to Liverpool lime street.

Non stop service via the old CLC route to Manchester from Formby through Liverpool and Hunts Cross. Or via the curves outside Southport requiring a pacer on the merseyrail line.

Perhaps electrification of the Southport to Manchester line.

It won't happen without significant infrastructure upgrades, but one day I'd love to see something along the lines of Leamington to Nottingham/Derby via Coventry and Leicester. (We'd need a dive-under at Nuneaton, probably plus one at Coventry.)

While we're dreaming, the Derby one can connect to a new semi-fast to Manchester along the reopened Matlock-Buxton line.

There was XC to Cardiff from Edinburgh at one point , dont know when Glasgow to Cardiff was last served . Quicker via West Coast

I believe the Burscough curves are considered from time to time. As are the Bootle and North Mersey Branches.

My wildest dream? A stopping service every 15 minutes going Derby-Peartree-Willington-Burton-Branston-Barton and Walton- Alrewas- Lichfield-Shenstone.....Birmingham.

As wild dreams go, it's fairly modest. No new track and only 3 stations requiring rebuilding. You might want to look if Toyota and Fradley Park are deserving of new stations also, although that would add to the cost considerably.

Dream on...

This is entirely possible, the complicated yard shunting move off the Abbey line onto the mainline at Watford was removed when Watford was resignalled in 2014 so the Abbey line is directly linked to the mainline now.

There are empty stock moves which use this new bit of track (clicky) on Sundays when the unit is swapped; I presume there are just no direct services because it's not included in the franchise specification so LM don't bother?

Yes - this ECS actually runs to Euston before reversing to Northampton, hence I got the idea for this service.

London to Cheltenham trains should, once they become hourly, be extended to Worcester, calling at Ashchurch, then 1tp2h to Malvern/Hereford, 1tp2h to Walsall via Stourbridge, Round Oak and thence to Walsall via the mothballed line. Possibly continuing to Lichfield and beyond via the reopened Brownhills line.

I think perhaps the following should be considered

Cheltenham to Cardiff service transferred to XC and extended to New Street. Linked across With Birmingham to Stansted service.

Birmingham to Leicester service extended to Norwich via Peterborough and Ely. Possibly also extended to either Liverpool or Shrewsbury (vice LM service between Birmingham and Shrewsbury / Liverpool).

Liverpool to Cambridge (or Stansted) service via Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham, Grantham and Peterborough.

Kings Cross to York services extended to Scarborough.

1tph XC service to be extended from Nottingham to Lincoln.

Extend the XC Reading terminators to Southampton. The Newcastle terminators to Edinburgh.

3rd XC service per hour between Reading and York via Oxford, Birmingham, Derby, Sheffield and Leeds. I would extend south to Gatwick / Heathrow via western access and north of York to Middlesbrough / Scarborough / Sunderland.

Plymouth to Scotland via WCML XC service.

Second hourly LM service Euston via Weedon route to the Trent Valley stations.

Skegness to North Wales or Manchester Airport via Nottingham, Derby and Crewe.

Agree with the suggestion of a Barnsley to London service. I would add also Burton on Trent to London and Matlock service. However I would withdraw the Lincoln to St Pancras service in favour of more trains between Cleethorpes / Lincoln and Kings Cross.

Equivalent of an hourly service between Inverness and Perth via the Highland Main Line alternating between Glasgow / Edinburgh between 05:30 and 20:00 in the up direction and 06:00 to 21:00 on the down direction. Connecting workings to city not served directly on alternate hoursShort workings betwen Inverness and Perth at end and beginning of traffic day.

St Pancras to Manchester via Leicester, Derby and Chesterfield not to compete with WCML service but to provide connectivity between the East Midlands and Manchester so it would be an intermediate stations service on the MML.

Would like to see the Padstow branch line reopened as compared to the St Ives line the scenery is just as good and Padstow has become a very busy place, every bit as much as Looe and St Ives. I think this will be unlikely though.
