Services with no intermediate stops due to the fact that there are no intermediate stations.

There was the Cardiff Queen Street - Cardiff Bay branch, though currently the bay platform at Queen Street is out of use and trains are running through to Coryton.

Except in the evening there are services which only run between the Bay and Queen St so they would fit the OPs criteria.

Thanks. Interesting they closed when other villages kept their stations, especially when the Chester to Crewe service is a local shuttle service. Acton Bridge survived despite being on a mainline and it not being possible for many services to stop there without delaying other services.
Chester-Crewe had a local stopping service (also one from Chester to Whitchurch which called at Waverton).
But it also carried long distance traffic, which was largely retained through the Beeching closures.
It was never a "branch line", and the Euston-Chester Avanti service is hardly a "shuttle" .
In the fairly recent past (BR/FNW), the service pattern was (Birmingham-) Crewe-Holyhead-Crewe-Chester-Crewe, with the shuttle integrated with the longer distance service.
ATW turned it into a local shuttle by diverting the long-distance Birmingham-Chester-Holyhead train via Shrewsbury and Wrexham.
Virgin/Avanti then increased their services to Chester/North Wales via Crewe, though the service is a bit thin at the moment.

Chester-Wrexham is also now devoid of intermediate stations, but trains mostly run through to Shrewsbury and beyond.
The North Wales coast line also lost nearly all its local stations, leaving just Shotton and Flint before Prestatyn.
Apart from these there's a long list of closed stations on the lines radiating from Chester (Mollington, Ledsham, Mickle Trafford, Dunham Hill...).

Thinking of the Chester area - doesn't the first train the first train of the day, the 06.51 from Wrexham General to Wrexham Central fit the criteria, a journey all of 2 mins, a shorter journey than the Stourbridge shuttle.

It certainly is at the moment - with just 2 through services to Euston and not even an hourly Chester-Crewe service (that connectivity being largely provided by TfW).

the service is a bit thin at the moment.
I think that's an understatement!

I actually went between Central and General today. The service I took terminated at Bidston - is there a service terminating at General in the morning?

As far as I know, the first train of the day begins its public service at General before then turning round to head off northwards to Bidston

There are a couple of Frome - Westbury (and vice versa) workings; one of them was even a HST off one of the PAD - Frome peak trains.

Are there still Aberdeen to Dyce trains? Or do they all now either run further or start back at Montrose?

Don't think so. They either all seem to continue on to Inverurie (or Inverness), or the one daily train (SuX) that does terminate at Dyce starts South of Aberdeen (at Montrose). Happy to be proved otherwise, though. ;)

Are there still Westbury-Frome ‘Frome Flyers’?

EDIT: Missed that this thread had got on to a second page and the question had been answered.

Have any branch line services from Brockenhurst ever terminated at Lymington Town?

Never say never, but currently looks as if everything on this particular branch terminates/reverses at the next station along, at the end of the line, i.e. Lymington Pier.

Yes, the Kings Lynn services are now the 'Cambridge Flyers' so they no longer meet this model.

You've got the Stourbridge shuttles, though these are segregated from the rest of the network.

With the Brighton-Hove shuttles not currently running, I can't immediately think of any others.
Brighton - Hove shuttles run on Saturday.

I'm currently on a Transport for Wales service between Crewe and Chester (where it terminates) - a service with no intermediate stops (ever, there's literally no stations for it to stop at). Are there any other examples of this across the UK?

(admins - feel free to move this thread, I feel as though it might be in the wrong category)

I can give an engineering work example. Occasional Great Northern services on a Sunday morning which start at Hornsey and terminate at Alexandra Palace. Normally on a Sunday when the Hertford Loop is closed for engineering works.

There's this weekday only York to Selby short service... running via the ECML so meeting the criteria. There's a 2345 returning to York too

During normal times, yes it would be a bit silly to terminate one station short, but I was wondering if it could happen. For example if the line south of Town was shut for engineering work but the line north to Brock remained open.

This is true - I'd be interested to know 1. what the purpose of running those is, and 2. whether they are OLE-powered or diesel.
They mostly run on Sunday mornings, when two of the MML tracks are closed to allow for engineering work, and hence there isn't enough capacity for all the normal services to run through to St Pancras. They are now operated by class 360 units, i.e. OLE powered.

Ah, that all makes sense. Thanks.

It happened in steam days because the shed was at Town. But Ampress Halt (unadvertised) was open back then, so it would only have been Town-Pier that qualified under the amended thread title. Memory says there was one (or more).
