Service changes Dec 2011

Hi,

I know that NXEA's West Anglia route is being recast in December, though the only changes I can see are the Cambridge fasts now omitting Sawbridgeworth, and the Hertford East trains having long layovers at Broxbourne to allow the above to pass.

So, aside from that, are there any other timetable / service changes due in December 2011?

I believe that East Coast are starting the 0610 PBO-KGX back from Doncaster.

What will this take timings up to?

More evening peak trains on the Hope Valley line and less TPE services calling at Chinley as a result of that.

13:52 Liverpool-Nottingham extended to Norwich (should happen in September, already pit back from May, but I'm not counting on LM releasing their 150s in time.)

Northern's Rail Manchester Victoria to Blackpool plus a couple of peak time Hazel Grove-Preston workings to call at the new station of Buckshaw Parkway.

They've actually applied for a Manchester Piccadilly-Blackpool working in either direction to call there, so it'll be the 06:53 working from Blackpool to Hazel Grove in the morning and the 16:30 or 16:59 Buxton - Blackpool services that stop as they are the only services that fit the bill. OK those aren't Hazel Grove-Preston but they're effectively peak time extensions of the service and I didn't realise that both the 16:30 and 16:59 started at Buxton until I just checked now - I thought one started at Buxton and the other at Hazel Grove.

You're probably right. I was going off what they said in May when I referred to September.

Hi,

The morning peak Cambridge fasts will miss out everything between Bishops Stortford and Tottenham Hale- as they'll be formed of 12 carriages. There's various other trains will become 8 carriages.

More likely it'll affect diagrams. The 156s at Newton Heath will be moved there to allow space for the extra 142s/150s at Newton Heath.

When will this refurbished depot be fully functional and what will the services be at first once it is open?

I thought it was due to provide some interim diesel service provision, prior to becoming a depot for the future electric train services for those that would benefit from the Lancashire Triangle electrification proposals.

From what I gather - and it's only chitchat - they're trying to ready it for the timetable change in December

Yes between South Parkway and Lime Street. It used to be used for DB's freight operations but closed down. It's the depot infamous for the story of a boy dying there one weekend when he and a friend trespassed in to the depot and climbed on a loco and was electrocuted by the overhead wires.

Really? They always seem pretty packed when they arrive at East Croydon. Perhaps Southern are trying to spread the load so people who would have tried to cram onto the already busy services from Redhill at East Croydon switch to the East Grinstead services, if they really are half empty.

Not sure but very few people squeeze into Redhill - London Bridge trains at East Croydon due to lack of space in them? I'm pretty sure the Victoria ones have space though!!

My personal theory is that Southern are deliberately neglecting the London Bridge to Redhill service as it will transfer to Thameslink sometime 2015 to 2018 but then I like conspiracy theories...

Yeah, but as with anything during rush hour, it has it's busy peak moments. Also an extra four carriages between London/Clapham/East Croydon will always help where ever their destination.

I had a quick look and it seems that now all the St-Ex services will stop at both B-S and Harlow Town. I guess the better performance of the 379 enables the extra stop within the same timing as the 317.

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned FCC Thameslink with the introduction of 12 car trains (tho limited for now) and retimed services between London and Bedford & Brighton.

Remember that before the complete Thameslink Programme starts in 2018 you will be seeing new trains running around under Southern and Southeastern. Redhill is one of the stations that will be seeing these new units approx 2016.

Southern are also planning 10 car services in the peak on the Sydenham Metro line. The platforms are currently being extended from 8-10.
