The 20mph TSR at Olive Mount doesnt apply to the Chat Moss lines, its only for the chord line.

.......It seems pretty apparant that passengers have taken, (quite large), belongings with them. In the event of an evacuation, all this should be left behind. I'm sure the RAIB will condemn this action from the traincrew. If somebody had fell with this luggage, and trains hadn't completely stopped, they could be killed.....
I am sorry but with all due respect, as I do not know you, I cannot agree with that view at all.

This was a controlled evacuation, not some hurried escape fromm a blazing train.

As far as I remember around there the line is track circuited so clearly the opposite line was blocked both physically, and I am sure, protected pretty quickly.

Criticsm of the train crew is very inapproprite. May I ask if you have ever been involved with an emergency evacuation of a train ?

These nasty 'bus' trains really are the absolute pits. Why weren't they scrapped years ago?

No, hang on.... why where they even built in the first place?

They were built because BR was operating cash-strapped due to Government policies, and was always looking for ingenious ways to lower costs whilst keeping the services running. The original Pacer idea was to stick a Leyland National bus body on a 2-axle freight wagon underbody. I accompanied a team of engineers involved in designing/building them who were trying to sell them to a German "private" [1] railway at the time. The Germans didn't laugh us out of court; they were far too polite. They did give us a look at the very modern, built to last German units they were just purchasing, though, from which it was clear that they weren't as cash-strapped as BR were, by any means.

[1] "Private" in Germany in this case means "non-Federally owned". They are not necessarily the same thing.
