The outdoor canopy fell on people sitting on benches below in Serbia's second city Novi Sad.

People were sitting on benches under the outdoor overhang at the station in Novi Sad, Serbia's second city, at the time of the collapse around noon local time (11:00 GMT), Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) reported.

Note that the report says the canopy dated from 1964. Concrete of that era hasn't lasted well in UK either.

Very sad indeed. Plus that this NSad will get its extended fast trains to Beograd planned from late this month or early dec-so it must be some prestige project.
Frankly I think most construction from the truely communist times are wacky there

Possibly lack of maintanance. 60s Yugloslav architecture is not always bad. Little money is invested since the 1980s and often part of it goes to corruption.
