September fare changes

Following on from the SWR thread, there are some more changes happening in September. I've not had a proper look yet but LNER are hiking some unregulated fares from my home station, with Northallerton to Newcastle and Northallerton to York CDRs both going up. Anything else?

I imagine there will be more changes this year than have generally been seen in a September fares round.

A general ramping up of prices doesn't surprise me. They need to claw back the money they were given by the Government somehow.

Quite a lot of unregulated fares increase in September rather than January (or March, as it was this year).

Just been having a play with the new fares data for September. An interesting development (for me, personally) is the introduction of "via Aberystwyth" tickets from stations on the Cambrian mainline (Welshpool to Bow Street) to parts of South Wales (Carmarthen, Swansea, Cardiff and surrounding areas) as well as "non-rail connected" Aberaeron. These tickets presumably allow use of the Traws Cymru network of busses.

If it's of interest to anyone, the fares database on www.railwaydata.co.uk/fares/NR has been updated. When setting a search date for September 5th onwards, any upcoming fares should be displayed.

A competitor for BR Fares! Nice! Am I right in thinking that the layout of the fares display is designed to closely mimic the old printed fares manuals?

I thought that the railway would want to increase revenue in order to get back the revenue lost due to the lockdown, increasing fares will inevitably put potential customers into their cars.

It's very kind of you to say, however it's a long way off the standard of BR Fares, which gives the official Avantix software a run for its money! The layout is indeed designed to mimic the printed fares manuals, though.

One issue is that London fares are mostly listed as 'City Thameslink' (presumably alphabetically) when many will not be valid via Farringdon to City Thameslink.

Doesn't that depend on how (digs back almost 40 years to A Level economics) how elastic the demand is?
