Last evening I was attempting to complete an on-line application for a 3 year Senior Railcard for a friend. Their website seemed to be having all sorts of problems and kept either freezing or dropping out. On one occasion I got as far as the payment area but never got a completion message and it asked me to return to the start.

As far as I could tell no completion had occured but this evening my friend has told me that she has 2 entries of £70 recorded as being taken tomorrow and she cannot see a way of stopping one of them. The only way I can find to contact them is by using the "Contact Me" section of their website. Does anyone know of a UK phone number that they can be contacted on? The only number I did find took me to a foreign call centre where the line was terrible and they could not understand the problems I was having, even when I quoted the code that was specifically mentioned on one of the Failure messages.

I strongly suspect the pending transactions will drop off within 5 working days without any intervention from anyone.

A long Messenger conversation today and, as above, both pending payments are being returned, then an actual "real" conversation with someone where we were able to purchase the required card. They admitted that there is a problem with the website at the moment that they are trying to resolve.

My wife had exactly the same problem last month when she wanted to renew her 3 year senior railcard online. After several attempts she gave up and bought a 1 year as she wanted to get an advance ticket from a real booking office that wants to see a real railcard before selling a real ticket.

Possibly a bit late now, but East Midlands Railway can sell Railcards online. Their address is https://railcards.eastmidlandsrailway.co.uk/

Rail Delivery Group have even advised people to use them in the past when they've had issues with their own site. (Much like Train Companies used to link to the Deutsche Bahn Journey Planner in the early days, as the Railtrack one wasn't great.)

I should have added that my wife buys her tickets from the real booking office because they are helpful and know their stuff.
