Curious I applied for a conductor role with XC back on 5th of July. Checking my application status on their website it says 'shortlisting'.

Given its almost been a month since I applied I find that hard to believe. So i assume I've been unsuccessful.

Can anyone confirm if the post has been filled or if they're incredibly slow. It was as I say senior conductor with XC based out of Birmingham New st.

All recruitment departments on the railways are notoriously slow. You could email them to get an update.

Might well do, even if them reading the email slows them up further! XC always seem to be hiring so I can believe that if it's a small team it can take a long time.

Always hiring as guards are always leaving to drive with other companies as XC don't promote internally.

Ah that's interesting. I get job alerts from XC and have wondered why the staff turnover seemed so high.

Worst thing you could ever do in relation to railway recruitment is "assume" it's been known that enough time has passed that people in talent pools have been in there that long they've actually forgotten about the job/application.

Then all of a sudden on a random day at a random time they get a phone call with a start date!

A month really is a drop in the ocean.

I think they only have two people that cover recruitment and they're responsible for all of the depots across the country from Plymouth to Edinburgh. From personal experience, it can be that you don't hear for months and then they come to you for two different applications you've made. Best of luck
