I'd be interested to know exactly what they were doing. Were they actually sitting themselves next to the crossing and waiting for vehicles to arrive (possibly wearing a high-vis, which as any fule kno gives you instant authority), or were they perhaps living next to the crossing, and occasionally shouting 'helpful' advice from their window?

In their own twisted view of thigns, the person may genuinely think that they ar ebeing helpful. If it is a minor crossing where occasional users have to phone the signaller for permission to cross, they may think that they are saving others from hassle, including the signaller who won;t have to answer the phone!

Needless to say, this view is completely wrong and the MOP may be in need of soem sor tof help!

You cant have some random decide when it is safe to cross the bloody railway line. FFS - I hope this was dealt with quickly. Itresting to see where it was. I hope to god this was a small crossing on a line that has three trains a day and not the ECML! (Plus i bet he didint have the right PPE or the right colour bash hat on either!)

Many years ago, I used to have a job the uniform of which was a sky blue shirt, navy sweater, navy blue trousers, black shoes. I used to stand on the platform waiting for my train home, answering questions from all and sundry about trains, as it was easier than dealing with the disbelieving looks when I told people "I don't know, I don't work for the railway".

The first time it happened to me was in 1991 when I was a postal worker, standing at platform 2 in Swansea High Street waiting to meet my brother off a train, with Royal Mail emblazoned all over my coat and jumper!

I was asked 'which platfrom for Pembroke Dock?' and knew the answer!

Me and my mate's railtour uniform's look similar to Northern's...cue him being asked by to confused tourists "Which train Leeds? This train Leeds, yeah? Ticket Leeds, ok yeah?"
