The benefit is minimal given they'll have to stop selling them to go and close the doors. I would argue that any advantage from it is cancelled out by it being harder for the guard to know who's boarded (trust me - seeing who's on the platform before they get on makes it a lot easier to find them on the train).
If you want to help sell tickets - instead of messing around installing CCTV for the driver's, just put more door panels in. I reckon the takings of Northern conductors would shoot up if they didn't only have one door panel they're allowed use on most of their services.
