I was on a EMT HST and when we stopped at Market Haborough and I thought they had SDO for some reason and poked my head out and then looked up and saw the orange door lights on!

Not when it's unlocked, no. As HSTs don't have SDO. Keep up!
I know you were talking about EMT HSTs in this case, but FGW HSTs do have SDO. I don't know if any other fleets do.

I believe XCs HSTs do as i noticed on some door panels there was a SDO sticker.

Strange as 220/221s don't have SDO (why?). 220/221s not having SDO causes problems in 10 car formations, with the last coach or two locked out of use.

I think it is possible to SDO a 220/221 but they've never had approval from the HMRI to do it.

And yes, XC HSTs do have SDO...

Correct! There'sd 2 vehicles in each set with SDO panels...

That depends I think. For most trains it is the guard, they do it before or when opening the doors. But there may be some trains when the driver does it.
