Seeking SR loco ID - long shot!

Hi all, trawling the memory banks again and seem to recall, many years ago, I think summer of 1979, walking towards Cosham station from the Hilsea area of Portsmouth, and a haulage truck going over the elevated section of road just at that point, bearing a preserved SR tank engine, presumably from one preservation line to another... would anyone have any idea to which loco that might have been? Gawping at a 1979 Ian Allen combine now, but can't quite pin it down! Thanks in anticipation

Wasn’t there a Terrier somewhere around Hayling Island (maybe on display outside a pub) around that time?
Possibly on its way to Bressingham or the Kent & East Sussex maybe?

Ah, a 'Hayling Billy'? You could be onto something there!

LBSCR 46/646, FYNR 2, SR W8, BR 32646 seems to have remained on Hayling from 1966 to 1979, when it went to the IoW. It was probably in SR livery when it crossed the Solent.

I found this just now:

‘Newington’ at the ‘Hayling Billy’ pub at Mengham on Hayling Island.

Following ownership by its builders the LB&SCR, transfer to the neighbouring London & South Western Railway, resale to the Isle of Wight’s Freshwat

Stayed local then, more or less... I was too young for pubs in those days, seldom went to Hayling, so had no idea about it being there

June 1979 it says here, which concurs with my summery memory of it! Thanks all - never would have expected to pin it down so quickly!

Couple of nice motors for c£500 in the foreground there too! What happened to Brickwoods brewery? Looks like it was bought by Whitbread's in the early 70s so perhaps by the time of donation the loco was in Whitbread's ownership (I now see this is confirmed on the flikr page where it says Whitbread donated it to IoWSR)

Looks like the Hayling Billy pub itself has now closed in recent times, tho a micro pub nearby seems to have opened and uses the same name, which is nice to see.

Many years later on a trip to Hayling my mother spotted the old Hayling Billy steam engine in the grounds of the Hayling Billy public house. I can’t tell you how delighted she was to see the ‘Coffeepot’ and how many happy memories it brought back for her.

The other preserved SR tanks are the Bluebell's E4 (which was unserviceable at the time) and 0415 (which was intensively used, both according to their website). M7 30053 was abroad, which leaves Terriers (as suggested) and IoW locos.
