London Midland has introduced a scheme where security guards accompany the senior conductor on local Birmingham Services. Whilst the particular security firm also undertakes crowd control on stations and deals with passengers at selected stations serving football events. Their services have now been increased to patrolling carriages to assist train crew where certain types of passenger behavior has been a threat to said crew. However, the rail union RMT appears to object to this step and industrial action has been talked about. The Coventry Evening Telegraph recently reported this, but why when additional security is a benefit to rail staff, is there a reluctance by the union to their presence?
