I used seatfrog recently for a GWR journey. There was a bid in for £10 so I bid £11 and became the high bidder. There were a few hours to go so I figured I'd increase my maximum bid to £15 to see off any later bids. It immediately told me I'd hit the 'secret' price and charged me £13.
Doesn't seem like a fair auction to me if they charge the hidden price immediately. If I'd left my bid at £11 I still probably would have won but saved myself £2! Not worth complaining about but puts me off them a bit.
I use Seatfrog a lot on that route and it works pretty well where upgrades are available. Beware though. As the trains are becoming busier, I had a train declassified and I can’t get a refund. Seatfrog claim it’s Avanti’s responsibility on their website and are not responding at all to emails. Avanti are at least responding but saying it’s Seatfrog’s responsibility. I’ve asked them to talk to each other to resolve it but don’t have high hopes.
I had this problem with Seatfrog too - turns out they hadn't gotten my emails. I emailed again earlier this week and got a refund sorted straight away. might be worth emailing again.
