SeatFrog ticket split - is it possible?

I'm looking at doing a SeatFrog upgrade from York to Aberdeen. I prefer to purchase the guaranteed upgrade in advance, rather than going through the bid/auction process, but this now seems to be £95 one way.
If I split the SeatFrog to, say, York - Edinburgh and Edinburgh -Aberdeen, but still using the same train, the guaranteed prices drop to around £20-25 for the first leg and £20 for the second. However, as soon as I confirm the purchase for one leg, it is no longer possible to buy the other leg, or even go into the auction. SeatFrog will still find the train, but it won't allow me to progress to the next stage.
Is this a deliberate policy by SeatFrog to prevent cheaper upgrades to be bought? As ticket splitting IS a perfectly legitimate way to buy tickets - indeed there's at least one website whose very raison d'être is just to do that - it seems odd that SeatFrog won't allow it. Or is it just a temporary glitch since they updated the app which, in my mind, shows no improvement whatsoever over the old one?

You could probably buy the second part using another account/phone/iPad

According to their website if you have split rail tickets you just book one seatfrog for the journey and don't split seatfrog.
But, as suggested above, I'm sure using a different account/device would enable the purchase.

I suspect the reason for it being cheaper is that the price is at least in part set based on the number of seats available, and there'll be more available for the shorter trips than the longer ones because of other people making shorter trips.
