Just booking a super off peak rtn with Two Together rcard, Abergavenny to Paddington 20 August 0835 & Pad - Agv 3 September 1645, both change Newport.

On GWR site it says no seat reservations available with this ticket.
On trainline it offers seat reservations for the outward but not rtn from Pad.

Is this usual? Probably as these services will be busy? How come trainline offer a seat reservation but not GWR, at least for the outward?

BTW I don't use trainline to book!

Reservations are not yet available beyond the 2nd September. They should be open in a week or two (usually 12 weeks in advance is the limit, sometimes less if engineering isn't yet confirmed).

The outward I would expect to be quiet, the return busy but not unusually so. I'd wait until nearer the date to book - no need to do so more than a day or two before travel.

No point in booking a Super Off Peak ticket so far ahead. It is a 'walk on' fare available on the day of travel at the same price. I do understand booking a little while ahead to get seat reservations though.

You can refund a 'walk on' ticket if your plans change but there's a £10 admin charge per ticket.
