Most stations can offer TOD provided the booking office is open (in case there is a problem). A test booking on the VTEC website says that tickets can be collected 0645-1900.

Frankly I wouldn't bother with a reservation - but that's up to you.

If you book on-line you can collect your tickets from any TVM at any station with a TVM, not just from the station you choose when booking. You will need your booking reference and the card you paid with. The TVM will dispense your tickets even if the booking office is closed. In my experience collecting tickets from a machine has been trouble free.
