Is there any difference in 'renewing' a monthly ticket rather than buying a new one? Some times, when a weekend falls immediately after the end of my monthly ticket, I have renewed on the Monday to find I have actually got a ticket for the weekend just gone when in fact I had no need to use the train.
In conversation about this in the office I have been told there may be a price difference as well! Are ticket staff told to renew from the date of expiry or from the date of purchase?

If you hold a monthly season ticket, you can renew it up to 7 days in advance of the new one starting, as long as there is no break in the current and new season ticket. e.g. your current one expires on Sunday, you could renew it this evening to save queuing at the ticket office next Monday. The ticket office would take your current ticket from you in exchange for the renewal, which would be valid immediately.

The ticket office can only renew from the current ticket's expiry as the new ticket is valid for immediate use until expiry. If they didn't, you'd effectively hold 2 season tickets until the current one expired.

You could always do what some of my customers this morning asked for, a renewal from today until Dec 4th, which happens to be a friday.
