Thanks

Sorry, no. The ticket is only valid on map RG so you'd be off route at Slough. See the diagnostics at http://trainscanbecheaper.info/Jour...rom=7031760&to=7055980&date=03/12/2013&outID=

Sorry - just noticed that it's a travelcard, not a point to point ticket. Therefore it IS valid because with a travelcard it's valid by any permitted route to any station in the zones. So in this case you could nominate Feltham, and travelling via Windsor is shorter than the shortest route by rail alone, so is automatically allowed.

Once in the zones, you may travel anywhere you like. So YES - it IS permitted.

Thanks for your reply.

Is there a way to find out on which other routes the travelcard would be valid than on the usual Burnham to Paddington route?

The ticket is valid on all routes between Burnham and the boundary stations of Zone 6 (around 20 different stations in total).

In most cases, this route will be into Paddington and cross London, but in some cases alternative routes are available.

The most obvious candidates are Feltham and Surbiton.

Burnham - Feltham is priced £17.20 SDS Any Permitted, £13.60 CDS Any Permitted. Burnham has routeing points Slough + Reading.

Reading - Feltham is priced £12 SDS Any Permitted, and Slough has the same fares as Burnham.

So both RPs are valid, and hence you can use mapped routes Reading - Feltham and also Slough - Feltham.

Reading - Feltham is obviously valid via Wokingham, so you can travel Burnham - Reading - Feltham. Slough - Feltham is also mapped via Reading, so that's double proof, if you will, that you can travel Burnham - Reading - Feltham (or Waterloo)

For Surbiton the fares are

Burnham £15.10/£13.60
Slough ditto
Reading £26.30/£21.80

so Slough is a valid routeing point, but Reading is not.

Slough - Surbiton is mapped LONDON, which means that you can't go 'round the outside', and hence the ticket has no extra validity.

Burnham - Ewell East/West is £15.60/£13.40
as is Slough
Reading is more expensive

Ewell East/West are associated with Epsom and Sutton

Slough - Epsom/Sutton is routed LONDON, so again no good here.

So that's probably it, but you can check the other Boundary Zone 6 stations if you like: you can travel via Windsor, you can travel via Reading and Feltham, and you can travel via West Drayton to Paddington.

At least in theory.

In practice on any other route other than into Paddington, you may face 'real world difficulties'.

Thanks for the replies.

So does this mean I can also do Burnham-Slough-Windsor and the return - on the travel card without going into London?

Soil - about traveling via Reading does this mean I could do Burnham-Reading-Waterloo? But not Burnham - Reading only?

Yes you can go via Slough on the t/c, in theory. You might be told it's not valid by staff in practice. YMMV.

A season ticket is valid between any two points contained on a valid route. So Burnham-Reading would be valid, Wokingham-Reading would be valid, and any other stations contained within a valid route also valid.

Again, you may be told that your ticket is not valid for this.

Thanks for the replies.

So if I was to go to Feltham from Burnham via Reading - I could break the journey at Reading on the Travelcard and carry on later - subject to "discussions" or would the barrier let me through?

Saying that do these barriers know which routes are valid for a given Travelcard - especially outside the usual London Zones?

I am almost certain that the barrier will reject it, unless it is set to something similar to "accept all in-date tickets".

Of course a ticket being rejected by the barrier does not necessarily mean it is not valid, however it is something to bear in mind if you need to travel regularly, or don't like hassle.
