Season Ticket Refund

Hopefully this is the correct place to post this query.

I am shortly due to change jobs which will negate the need for my annual season ticket which I will need to seek a refund on.

I am aware of the general calculations for refunds but does anybody have any knowledge or experience of how long it takes to process and reimburse?

I have a season ticket loan from work which will need to be surrendered and paid back in full on exit so I’m trying to establish the optimum time to seek the refund to enable this to tie in with my company seeking the remaining funds due on the season ticket loan in my final monthly salary.

Any help appreciated.

In most cases you will be better off making a season ticket changeover - where you effectively change the route of your season ticket, usually for a much cheaper throwaway ticket. This can deliver particularly good benefits in that the relevant calculations are done on a pro-rata basis - e.g. if you changeover 11 months into an annual season ticket, the value on which calculations are based is 11/12 of the original cost. Plain refund calculations are done based on what you would otherwise had to have paid - e.g. 11 months in your ticket would have no refund value as it costs the same as about 10.4 monthly season tickets.

As a particular example, if you want to keep an Annual Gold Card (assuming you have this currently), I believe the cheapest annual season ticket is Ryde to Ryde Esplanade, or possibly Exeter St David's to Exeter Central. If you don't require this, I think the cheapest is Dockyard (Devon) to Devonport.

If you get a changeover, you do indeed get a pro-rata refund and this should be delivered fairly quickly - some ticket offices may be able to do an immediate refund by card for example, but if the amount is over a certain threshold or if the calculations are complex, they may not be able to do it straight away and so you may have to wait for a cheque or somesuch. This would not usually take more than a few weeks.

Depends on how refunds work on the TOC that you purchased the ticket from.

I can refund at the window up to £250 instantly.

Anything more would either require a supervisor who can process the ticket refund remotely and authorize it via star again this would be near enough instantly

or it might need to be sent of to Passenger accounts where it can take up to 28days.
