Hi All,

I have recently purchased a house in Salisbury and am seeking some advice about monthly season tickets.

I need to travel 5 days a week during morning peak and returning evening peak from Salisbury to London Waterloo and then onwards by the Drain and tube to Liverpool Street.

I am thinking that the only real option is Salisbury R1 - 6 monthly travelcard for £557. I really need a travelcard option because I can then use it some weekends when I will travel from Salisbury to Gordon Hill and Hampton Court to see friends. I don't really want to walk between Waterloo and Liverpool Street every day as I have done it before and it is too much time both before and after work...

Can anyone help with any ticket splits that might have some money here?

Appreciate any advice that anyone can offer.

Thanks!

Not splits as such, but you can buy season tickets for 1 month plus one or more days. You can then buy a ticket starting on a Monday and ending on a Friday that lasts 1 month and a couple of days, and saves you paying for a weekend (or holiday) when you won't be travelling to London. I have found that, with careful planning, the total spent in a year on odd-period season tickets can be got down to around the level of the cost of an annual season ticket.

Edit: when splitting with two (or more) season tickets, the train must stop at the station(s) where you switch from one season to another: this can make season-ticket splitting tricky on routes with irregular stopping patterns.

Alternatively of course, if you can stump up the cash (or your employer has a season ticket loan scheme), then an annual gives a good saving over 12x monthlies (about £800), plus you'll get the benefits of a Gold Card.

Should you no longer need the ticket, it can be refunded less the cost of what's been used and a small admin charge.

From August trains will run again between Waterloo East and London Bridge, so if you could walk from there, a London Terminals ticket would suffice (£493.50/month).

A London Terminals ticket will also get you to Cannon Street (changing at Waterloo East and London Bridge) which is even nearer to Liverpool Street.

That option isn't available though until the London Bridge rebuild is finished

Yes it is. London Terminals tickets are accepted on appropriate Underground routes, including Jubilee (Waterloo-Southwark-London Bridge), Northern (London Bridge-Elephant&Castle), Northern/Bakerloo (Waterloo-Embankment-Charing Cross) and Circle/District (Embankment-Blackfriars-Cannon Street). NR tickets are not accepted for entry/exit at other stations (eg Borough, Mansion House).
