Season ticket bought, issued as "renewal"

Popped into Sandwell & Dudley this morning to buy a weekly season ticket, brand new with new photocard, but notice it was printed "renewal" on the ticket.

Does it make any difference to the issuing station/TOC? Obviously it doesn't to me but thought it was unusual.

If it started today then there is no difference. If it was for a future date then you've gained extra days on the beginning of the ticket.

Depending on the Ticket Issuing System being used, the "Renewal" option could be a fudge to get it to print your photocard number on the ticket instead of having to write it on by hand.
