Season e-ticket 'already clipped'

Hi,

I'm having some trouble with my new e-ticket Season Ticket. When I make more than one return journey in the same day (which I'm sure is permitted) it is coming up as 'already clipped' when scanned on the train and causing problems. Maybe this is because the journeys are too close together but either way I don't really want to have to keep explaining this every day that I travel more than once.

The only other thing I can think of is that somebody has got hold of my barcode and is using it on the same services as me. I always carry my photocard, but it is rarely checked. I really don't think this is very likely at all, but it has crossed my mind.

Does anyone know what could be happening? Is there some kind of timer where the system doesn't expect to see the same ticket more than once per day, or per few hours? If there's no way to address this, is there a way to exchange my e-ticket for a paper one? It's a 12 month ticket and I'd rather not have these problems for the next year. Unless I've really missed something that says I can't make more than one journey a day, but I thought that season (e-)tickets allow unlimited travel.

Many thanks.

Season tickets do allow unlimited travel so no need to worry on that front (alas I can't help you on anything else!).

Could perhaps be as simple as the staff scanning your e-ticket not realising that it's a season. But at the same time, their software probably shouldn't be saying 'already clipped' for e-seasons anyway.

I think that when a ticket is scanned it marks it as having been used/clipped on that day. If you therefore make another journey it will show accordingly to staff if they scan the ticket again.

Although you are valid a guard told me that his TOC do not like or want season tickets being used more than once on the same day They are trying to crack down on it and E tickets will help them identify "offenders"more easily.

No offence is being committed - are they looking for tickets being used by more than one person perhaps?

Yes I think that's what they think is happening if a season is used more than once a day.
Season tickets can be used unlimited times a day, You could literally spend from midnight to midnight on the date of the season ticket , riding up and down the area of validity of the season ticket. I presume the season ticket in question has a photograph attached to it. If that is the case, they need to catch the person who doesnt have a matching photograph for the season ticket. to prove duplicate use. Unless it is showing as clipped on a train that it is impossible for the OP to be on.

If this is true, I dread to think the letters customers might receive about ‘suspicious behaviour’ on s-tickets, when all they’re doing is using the validity of their ticket to the max I.e. getting their money’s worth.

Agree, sounds rubbish.

Flexi Seasons will (obviously) show as 'Clipped by xxxx' if more than one guard clips this in a day but are perfectly valid for unlimited travel until (just after) midnight between the stated stations.

> If being used the day after either 'Expired ticket' or 'Incorrect Date' will flag.

I once had an argument with a bus driver who remembered me from a previous journey 2 hours before. He tried to claim that a weekly ticket was only valid for one return a day.

As he insisted I buy a new ticket I paid him with a £20 note and lots of 1p and 2p. The bus company refunded me and gave me another free day ticket.
