For the OP's consideration I would also suggest Southend Victoria, a terminus station, although it has another railway closer to the sea.

Whereas Thurso is despite having no terminating trains. But that's the joy of definitions.
of course they are (mostly!) But not really seaside termini, Lime St is moot as you have to change to another train to get to a beach! I was thinking about the Weymouth of old, with the branch to the quay... does (did) that disqualify it as a seaside terminus? I'm not wholly convinced about Paignton either, as the lines have always run through to the carriage sidings. Kingswear? no contest!

Isn't it for the OP to define the criteria they wish to work with? We've already worked through "what does seaside mean?", do we need to work through what terminus means as well? The OP considers Paignton in post #1.

Re-Weymouth of old, the line to the quayside left the mainline just north of Weymouh station, which itself has always been a terminus.
Looking at the map I thought that was probably the answer. So our journey from Bristol to Weymouth Quay (SWMBO assures me, with our bikes) in about 1975 wouldn't have called at Weymouth town? Or did it run in, back out and then forward to the quay?

Congratulations on shoehorning Thumpers into the thread!
By then, IIRC the train was a DMU and did just that (unlike the London trains at that date). At an earlier date there was a separate Quay portion.
I remember it was something like 0530 Bristol to Weymouth, l/h. My memory is having to bail out and cycle through the streets, so maybe it was a different holiday we are talking about.

AFAIK Brighton doesn't regularly have reversing services. They only happen when the line from Keymer Jn to Lewes is blocked (planned or not). But I'd argue a train requiring to reverse is a demonstration of a station being a terminus!
Or the late night set-down-only train from London to Worthing.

As a newcomer to not only this thread but also UK Rail Forums please may I provide my first submission on this particular topic of seaside termini.
We all have our own ideas of what can be considered a terminal station and I think it is up to the traveller to establish his own criteria on whether a station is terminal – all platforms have buffer stops, whether seaside or coastal and so on. Whichever definition is established, the traveller will find that there are probably between 50-60 stations which fit the definition and with some of the journeys extending over fairly long branches, especially in Scotland, the actual travelling time required to complete his mission is probably going to be more than just a couple of weeks.
I assume that the actual travel is intended to be completely by rail and hence other travel options to move from one line to another are not permitted. Otherwise a taxi from Walton-on-Naze to Harwich Town, or a walk from Southend Victoria to Southend Central (for Shoeburyness), would save time by not returning along the same branch.
I don’t think anybody has yet mentioned the definition of a station, but I suggest only those passenger stations with an entry and train services listed in the electronic National Rail Timetable (eNRT) are considered. This excludes heritage railways even if connected to National Rail.
In the ‘All the stations’ project of 2017 carried out by Geoff Marshall and Vicki Pipe, they not only had to pass through the stations, but the rule was that the train had to stop at the station to count as a visit. In this case, if the intention is to ‘bag’ or count only terminal stations, then trains which skip intermediate stations on a branch would be acceptable for the journey.
With respect to specific stations mentioned previously, Sheringham (Greater Anglia) and Sheringham (North Norfolk Railway) are separate stations linked by a short stretch of line which crosses a local road with associated level crossing. The connection is occasionally used by special excursions to the NNR.
My own travels are by armchair using scheduled services and the eNRT. A theoretical round trip in a day from home to the three capitals (London, Cardiff and Edinburgh) proved easily feasible and I also then considered a trip round all the termini – both coastal and inland. I have abandoned this and since have conjectured a trip to seaside/coastal termini only. I think the hypothetical plan would be to break the overall trip into manageable sections which can be completed within a week or within a day.
As an example of terminal visiting, I recently scheduled an armchair journey for the GE mainline from Shenfield to Norwich with all its branches (i.e. Southend Victoria, Braintree, Sudbury, Colchester Town, Clacton/Walton, Harwich, Felixstowe, Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth, Cromer and Sheringham). Starting from and returning to my home city of Chelmsford using the M-F weekday timetable, I was able to schedule a theoretical journey to complete this in a day. The only station not covered was Berney Arms and its linking line between Reedham and Great Yarmouth. This was impractical to include in a day trip because of the very limited trains which use that route link.
I wish the traveller the best of luck to both him and his wife. I hope they enjoy their journeys.

Following on from the discussion concerning seaside terminal stations, I have drafted a grand clockwise tour of all the ‘seaside’ stations in the UK mainland which match one or more of the following criteria.
Recognised as a holiday destination and/or
Part of a town on the coast and/or
Part of a town on a tidal part of a river estuary.
These categories cover most of the places discussed previously but I exclude Thames side terminals in London.
As far as travel is concerned, the reference for timings is the e-NRT passenger timetable covering June-December 2024. Some tables have an additional sub-timetable covering part of September and October only and it is these that are used. Only M-F days are used for travel
There are a few rules which are generally obeyed with minor exceptions.
Both arrival and departure must be by national rail services. This includes London Overground services (e.g. Elizabeth line) and Thameslink services but excludes London Tube services.
Walking (or any other means of travel such as bus) between adjacent or nearby stations (e.g. Southend Victoria/Southend Central) is not allowed. This does sometimes result in some circuitous routing.
The aim in planning was not to rush and try to meet a target time but allow ample time to make the journeys including changes.
Other than at e.g. key junction stations where there are often separate arrival/departure times; where no time of arrival is specified, it is assumed to be the same as the scheduled departure time.
There are a few additional constraints:
First departure of the day must be at or after 9am.
Between 1200-1400 each day there should be a stop at a suitable station for a lunch break. This rule was broken with stops of 44 minutes on just two occasions. Lunch break locations are indicated by * following their name.
The final journey of the day should be completed by 7pm to allow time for dinner and stopover. Most but not all stopovers are at some of the designated seaside terminal stations, especially those located at interesting tourist towns. Stopover towns are indicated by + following their name.
To complete the trip as described requires 32 days or just over 6 weeks (M-F) of travel.
The attached spreadsheet provides detailed timings starting from my home city of Chelmsford, and I am happy to accept any corrections or suggested amendments or indeed any other comments.

I decided, for fun, to ignore all of the timing rules (no lunch break, no start/end times, all days of week) to see how much quicker it COULD be done.
But following (mostly) the same route (because it would be more work otherwise), Day 1 will be based on Monday 7th October, with data taken from RTT.
Minimum connection times are also ignored, as long as there's enough time to run it's valid.
Definitely don't try this version in person (it probably wouldn't even work virtually given a single delay topples the entire structure).
So far day 1 is done, ending in Havant (having visited Portsmouth), more to come tomorrow!

Got a bit carried away and forgot everything was supposed to be clockwise (put Milford Haven and Fishguard before Pembroke because it was quicker), now I think it's too late to go back, so mine will be aproximately clockwise, but still stop at all of the same seaside terminals.
Also it saves almost a whole day to do Heysham Harbour before Blackpool's two, thanks to one train per day.
And just after the above, saves 12 minutes (which don't even matter due to a long wait) to do North before South.
There are works on the Southport line when the route reached it, so I've used a different week's timetable for it to avoid Rail Replacement Buses.

You could save yourself a couple of hours on day 11 by skipping Barton, as it is in no way a beach resort. It is simply 1 long mud Bank from Immingham to where the Humber joins the Trent and Ouse.
Your wife will divorce you after being taken for a nights stopover in Sheerness on Sea, trust me - normal people only go to Sheppy in the Group 4 Van from a court.

Technically, although they have beaches, both West Kirby & New Brighton lie on river estuaries, not "seaside". (The Dee & Mersey, respectively).

Points taken re Colchester town, Barton on Humber and Sheerness. Can argue about criteria for inclusion but in the end it must be up to the individual to define his own.
Pokermonsuper9 has done a good circuit in excellent time on the basis of making full use of
operational hours , - typically around 5am to midnight.
The restrictions imposed by long branches in Mid Wales and the far north of Scotland plus 1tpd to Heysham make the task quite a challenge.
I am now thinking of a circuit around the 4 compass points of Thurso, Lowestoft, Penzance, Arisaig as the most northerly, easterly, southerly, westerly stations, although I note disagreement on Penzance.
I guess starting from any choice from the four I guess it should be possible to complete a round trip within 4 days, especially if only one trip each way between England and Scotland is made.
