As a kid i remember the merrymakers and sometimes they would from what i remember do a mystery tour, 5 to 6 hours on the train always pulled by a 47 on my trips, some of the places we ended were folkestone, whitby, bournemouth, great yarmouth, blackpool and clacton and they were pretty cheap and always full.
Some of these destinations come teatime all the platforms would be full of loco hauled services from destinations from around the country, long gone now just a 2 car dmu on a lonely platform or reduced platform.

Also from memory, i think there used to be a Saturday only (correct me if i'm wrong) Derby to Aberystwyth/Llandudno pulled by a pair of 25's.
