My FIL has any oyster 60+ card which entitles him to free journeys after 9.30.
He travelled from Northolt to Victoria, and then was told he needed a ticket from someone at SouthEastern to Bromley South.

He bought a ticket and when I questioned him, he should not have been asked to pay for a ticket as his pass covers him.
If he travelled without a valid ticket he would have got a penalty fare.

What is the best way to proceed as he was given incorrect advice.

Ask Southeastern for a refund. Let us know how you get on.

What conversation(s) took place exactly?

Did he use a paper ticket? Does he still have it? If not, how did he pay for it?

Was he stopped from boarding or did he enquire if the card was valid?

If he enquired what did he ask?

If, for example, he enquired about validity by quoting the train's final, out of zone, destination then I can see somebody assuming, rightly or wrongly, that he wanted to use the card to that station.

I am not trying to excuse South Eastern but my own experience of dealing with customer's issues is that the problem often arises from asking the wrong question in the first place.
