SE OBM Talent Pool

Hi all,

Just wanted to know if anyone is currently in the talent pool, gone through the waiting game or had any insight to whether or not they will be recruiting any time soon...

I'm currently on the On Board Manager - Faversham (highspeed) talent pool and waiting for a position to come up.

My recruitment journey to date:
Applied March 2019
Assessment Centre April 2019
Interview Passed July 2019

I did receive an email last month to say that my application is still on their system...

I've seen recently that SE have recruited conductors for a talent pool, so hoping that training is perhaps starting to open back up?!

I work for SE, from what i understand the training school for all positions closed during lockdown etc. I think they're just catching up so bear with them and I'm sure they'll be in contact as soon as they can

Good luck. I’m in the conductor talent pool. Can anyone advise of the specific differences between the two roles and the different skills required. Is it easy to move between the two roles?

There’s not a huge amount of difference between the roles. The OBM’s only work the Highspeed services and have a real focus on customer service / tickets, they also have no responsibility over closing the doors as this is done by the driver, also OBM’s cannot earn commission from ticket sales. Guards/Conductors also have the commercial duties but will always priorities the safety aspect of closing the doors of the train and ensure they are in the correct position to dispatch the train safely, Conductors work 465/375/377 units which are called mainline services. From what I can think of these are the fundamental differences

I’m afraid not, other than I know they have been able to run some courses remotely but I’m not sure how this would apply to an OBM role. Sorry

I know they have been running Conductor courses pretty much remotely apart from the necessary face to face stuff (train working) that is either done individually at depot with a conductor instructor or in small groups (2 or 3) with a trainer. There has been a new OBM join the Faversham depot recently, so you should be moving up the pool.

Is there a good chance of being offered a position during the time in the pool?
It seems a lot of work to get into one and I cant imagine the disappointment if nothing comes of it.

As far as I'm aware they're pretty standard across the industry regardless of TOC. I spent just under 2 years in a talent pool... Obviously there's the issue of assessment scores only being valid for 3 years, therefore it's always worthwhile contacting the recruitment team from time to time to remind them you still exist, although they will know that.
