Swedish open-access operator Snälltåget is going to offer a one-off northern lights round trip from Malmö in southern Sweden to Narvik in Norway, via Abisko Tourist Station, in November.
The train departs from Malmö at 13:15 on Monday, 23rd of November and arrives in Narvik the following day at 16:34. The return journey is from Narvik on Friday, 27th November at 12:40, arriving in Malmö at 14:45 on Saturday. The trip goes via the Main Line through Upper Norrland, via Ånge, Vännäs and Boden, for a total distance of 2,156 kilometres and journey time of 26–27 hours each way. And, yes, the famous Snälltåget Krogen ("the pub") will be included, for meals and drinks.
The trips are offered in partnership with the STF hosteling association and the (wonderful) STF Abisko Tourist Station, on the south shore of Lake Torneträsk.
Snälltåget has received two additional pairs of paths, so if the pilot trip is popular they will offer two more departures in the winter 2026/2027 season.
