Hi, I was stopped by a ticket inspector without a valid ticket back at the start of November, travelling on SE railways! I was given an MG11, but haven’t heard anything since or received anything in the post! Does it usually take this long?
Thanks

Yes, that’s not an unusual length of time at all, it could be many more months.

Ok thank you! And am I right in thinking if I don’t hear before 6 months, it will be dropped?
The 6 month limit is for the prosecution to be notified to the court, so if they haven’t done so within 6 months you can’t be criminally prosecuted, but if they commence the prosecution the day before the deadline you won’t hear about it for a few days or weeks, so you can’t be sure until roughly 6.5-7 months.

Once criminal prosecution is out of time, they could still pursue the unpaid fare(s) civilly.

Happy to answer any other questions you might have :)

If you've experienced a ticketing issue, please start your own thread. No two cases are exactly the same, and we find that having multiple people discussing different incidents in the same thread tends to result in confusion.

Nope, not at all.

It seems southeastern haven't been proceeding with their cases due to internal restructuring. This has allowed a lot of cases that would've probably been suitable for settlements or prosecution to lapse the 6 month limit at which point they have to let the case go. So you have probably gotten away with it, but keep an eye out for any notices or letters but it is unlikely. And it is possible that they may pursue you civilly in the future for the lost fares. Again, unlikely.

Ok thanks very much! There wouldn’t be any point in trying to reach out to them then?

I’ll continue to keep an eye out for anything in the post and keep my fingers crossed!

don't reach out - There is nothing to be gained from reaching out to them. they have missed their window of opportunity to act on the fare irregularity
chances are they'd just give you the same responses we've already seen in the thread above anyway
