Evening, I had a little look but couldn't see it anywhere. Apologies if this is in the wrong thread. Has anyone else heard that the SE 377 fleet is returning to Southern in May?

It's been mentioned on the thread about the withdrawal of the 455s (which of course is what the 377s would be displacing at Southern)

The suggestion in the other threads appears to be that it may be up to 12 377 units transferring, not all of them, at this stage.

From what it seems all 377s will be with southern and the GN 387s

The GN 387s aren’t going anywhere in time for May, if at all.

This has been through so many iterations it’s become hard to follow, however from what I gather as things stand at the moment the following will happen:

* SN 455 withdrawn from May timetable change, replaced by a reshuffle of SN’s existing 377 fleet.

* SN 313s withdrawn in time for December timetable change, with SE 377s displaced to cover, and some of their work covered by retained Networkers freed up by the remainder of the 707s.

Where the 379s might fit in to all this is if there is a need to provide additional SN and/or GN capacity. Presumably the stored 465/2 could also act as a backstop for SE for as long as they remain stored.

If we reach December and, as it appears, all three of the 313 365 and 455 fleets have been removed from GTR with only the SE 377 as replacements then things will be very tight for any capacity uplift.

It's not going to happen. They're in a state so bad that there's no going back, as has been confirmed several times. The few stored 465/0/1/9 / 466 could possibly return if they haven't already.

PTSO or platform depending on the weather

This is what I wondered. Given the length of time in storage, are they ever going to be in a fit state to see service again? I doubt it somewhat ...

Certainly 8-377 on the Victoria-Maidstone East-Ashford services are very busy in the peaks and at weekends. Could probably get away with running 4-cars outside of the peaks weekdays

I still find it a bit weird when you look at the relative fleet balance between the 2 operators, if Southern lose 455s and 313s and gain some 377s back from SE - i.e. losing higher density metro trains and gaining lower density long distance ones, whereas SE will lose lower density 377s (and a few Networkers) and gain higher density metro 707s.

Even with the higher density 377s, Southern seem a bit short on suitable stock for their Metro routes, while the 465/9s are a pretty poor replacement for the 377s sent back.

I think people are forgetting there is a massive recast of the Kent timetable in Dec 22, and GTR have timetable changes in September and December.
