Hi! Basically what I'm wanting is for me to step off a train and the first thing I see is some great scenery. Don't want to walk 30 minutes to see it. I want to see it when I get off the train. I need some fresh air. Any ideas of some stations? Thanks a lot!

Duncraig on the railway to Kyle of Lochalsh.
Sea-loch a couple of feet from the platform, soft mountain air, view from the platform bench of a small wooded island and the beautiful village of Plockton, with it's palm trees and micro climate, just across the bay. (About an hour's walk along a footpath, but quicker if you've got a boat!) Oh, and a Victorian castle just up the track from the station.
And the whole surrounded by a ring of mountains, and that fantastic light you only get on the coast....
I'm waxing lyrical here, but don't forget it's a request stop and tell the Guard you want to get off!

Around Edinburgh there's North Berwick (beautiful coastal town), Aberdour (ditto, castle adjacent to station), North Queensferry (Forth Bridge), Linlithgow (attractive town, mediaeval palace, lake) and Dunbar (harbour, coastal scenery). All well within half an hour of Waverley , and useful for collecting 158's, 170's and 380's if that's your thing!

Wemyss Bay is great and very accessible. Ferry to Rothesay adjacent.
They were rebuilding Gourock when I was last there, but very similar.
The Clyde estuary is fantastic.
Pick a day when PS Waverley is running.

Craig seems to be a town in Dumfries and Galloway though it isn't served by rail!

If travelling from Glasgow, it's not long before you see some great countryside out of the city. I'd go for the Clyde either north or south of the river. North side towards Helensburgh; South side towards Gourock and Wemyss Bay.

what about Carstairs? Well in the country and its handy for the State "hospital"
I know your joking, but that is near one of my favourite places. If you get off at Greenfaulds there is a big forest about a minute away. Love that place.Cumbernauld!

Get the train at when street low level and the route is breathtaking heading east where you can pick some stunning locations to alight, favourites include shettleston and easterhouse.
