Scottish bus depots.

Can anyone provide location details (directions) for First bus depots at Livingston and Galashiels?

I am going that way at the weekend so if anyone can help in the next couple of days would be appreciated.

Livingston depot is up by deans, I sure deans road ie a main road.

If you take 800 or 27/28 both go right past the front door if your lucky it will even strip inside it .

Gala depot is just off the main A72 road to Peebles on Duke Street; it's set back, tucked away behind some houses but you might see some vehicles parked out the front. Take the main 62 service towards Peebles and Edinburgh and it passes it (I think)

Depending when you're travelling (e.g. in the early evening), there are also vehicles parked up in Peebles in the public car park next to Sainsburys.

Galashiels depot is on Duke Street, just off the A72 and King St/Queen St.

Musselburgh couldn't be more central. On Mall Avenue, right by the bridge over the river at the west end of the High Street.

Quite a small frontage though the depot goes back quite a bit.

Sounds like a plan to make a Google Earth (KMZ ??) file of all of the depots of each company. Something to do for a rainy day maybe. Having said that there may be one already..?

Depends where you're thinking of basing yourself. If it's Fife, then you've got St Andrews (adjacent to bus station), Glenrothes, Dunfermline (St Leonards St opp Asda superstore) and Cowdenbeath (Broad Street on way out of town to Hill of Beath - a former tram depot). There's also the small outbase at Newburgh (The Shore) where 4/5 deckers park at night next to the old depot building.

Alternatively, if it's more central, then you're talking about Larbert (Stirling Road on edge of Falkirk), Bannockburn (corner of Cowie Road - on the very edge of town with fields around).

However, the best place is Balfron. On the C10/11 service (I think) from Stirling to Glasgow. The village is in the hills, middle of nowhere. The depot gets the real old timers, and being mainly on schools, it sits there throughout the day. Last time I was there (earlier this year) it had ex Bristol Leyland Olympians, ex Glasgow Volvo Olympians, ex York Scania L113, ex Manchester L94, ex London Dart - right mix. Depot there is towards the bottom of the village, turn left in Dunmore Street and it's just there.

Just going to see what I can from outside and ask to look around on the day although I am not that hopeful given previous experiences of this approach. Couldn't ring in advance as wasn't sure what days I was going to be at any particular place.

Yes thanks for the information - I'm staying near Dundee as it was cheaper than Edinburgh and have a car to get around so will try Balfron and other depot's nearby. Will also head West towards Livingston and possibly Edinburgh area (Musselburgh).

The sign on the front is noteworthy, being both out of date and poorly formatted (the dots aren't there, they're just to match the sign's text alignment):

In contrast, East Lothian's other First garage in North Berwick has had no sign at all for more than 12 years.

I thought First had one here but it is not listed in the 2013 fleetbook!

Just answered my own question by looking on Google, it closed in April 2012 and site seems destined to become a Morrisons supermarket!

No point in going there then.

Linlithgow closed last year as well.......

Whats still being stored at Cumbernauld? Single deckers or those awful Tridents? I have heard some of them are off to Larbert.

Most of the routes went to depots within Glasgow, but there was some cut back to routes in Cumbernauld town and Cumbernauld to glasgow

There are still quite a lot of buses in storage at Cumbernauld though.

Around 40 buses parked outside and possibly more inside when I was there yesterday. Mix of types including artics and lots of Tridents. Security staff are on site and stored buses in close proximity to TA centre and packed in made reading fleet numbers difficult.
