I wonder if they ever take on qualifides up there...would make a wonderful 'retirement' depot in a number of years time!

I did. Bit out in the middle of knowhere but it's not like I'm making a commitment to live in Fort William for the next 35 or so years

My guess for the FTW job is they'll transfer a GLQ driver.

Think FTW only have about 5 drivers so they're essentially 20% down on their workforce at the moment. I can't imagine them taking the time to put a newbie through training when they're 20% understaffed when they could just transfer someone who already knows the route.

GLQ only sign to Rannoch so there is still some extensive route knowledge required. Fort William can run fine on just 4 drivers, just. They've done it in the past for a long period of time so they'll be able to cope just as well again. Such as last time when the Fort was one down they just recruited a new driver rather than a transfer.

A ggod friend and ex colleague of mine went for Scotrail - 8 years experience, lived close to the depot with no safety incidents and they took a trainee on instead so my answer would be - don't hold your breath

Thanks but i wasn't completely serious. I'm sure the work would be nice for the first few weeks but I think I would go mad with such little route variation, no matter how good the route is.

Where will the training take place for this? If they are only taking on one trainee then surely this will happen at another depot along with others trainees.

I've applied, it states on the application about relocating, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Cheers mate, thanks for that. I can't access the application yet - still got a week until my 6 months waiting period to reapply with First Group is up.

Wait and see.

I put it through as would relocate and sadly got a generic, did not get this role etc can't offer feedback.

(Was for Edinburgh Role, Sent on the Thursday, Got reply saying unsuccesful on the Friday, Last Week)

I applied on 23rd May, still awaiting shortlisting.

I applied for the Tweedbank vacancy earlier in the year and had held my application back until close to the closing date only to be informed i had past the shortlisting but my application was 'on hold' as all assesment slots had been filled :-x, so made shure i got it in good an early this time.

Considering applying for Edinburgh but unsure of the daily commute time driving from Glasgow. I am still 'Successful after Shortlisting - On Hold' for Glasgow, however this has been since October last year.

I have been waiting patiently for this, my six month wait to reapply for first is up on the deadline day, i am from Glasgow but have the advantage of family in edinburgh so can use there as a stop gap but very willing to relocate closer. But i believe the first section of training will take place in Glasgow so could work to my advantage. Here is hoping applying at the last minute doesn't go against me.

Unfortunately you will be rejected by computer software if you live too far away, simply because they get enough applicants close by and are deemed less of a risk of being late for work or something. You will really need to call and explain the relocation thing personally or you will get automatic rejection based on distance. 1 hour by car I believe is the max
