Has anyone from the recent talent bank applications received dates for the first part of the assessment yet? I've not practiced at all as life is so busy so it's really difficult to get the time and headspace so I'm somewhat hoping it's a wee while away.
Do you mean the initial online psychometric survey followed by the visual reaction tests and so on or being invited to the assessment centre in Glasgow for classroom-based Bourdon and other concentration / monitoring / precision testing under exam conditions?

I undertook the online tests in late May after seeing the talent bank applications request earlier in the spring when it was reopened, and expected that that would be the end of it. However, heard 2 days ago that I'm through to the Assessment centre exam sessions when a slot is proposed so fingers crossed.

That’s interesting - what depot?

I’ve made it to stage 1 paper tests for Waverley but not had a date yet. Been nearly 3 weeks.

For the benefit of all Ayr applicants 2 courses have already been arranged for this year so I can’t see any reason to think that recruitment is slowing down. Last year I think they had 3 courses for Ayr with the final one being in November so whilst I can’t say for sure, I would be expecting a few of you who passed at the tail end of last year to hear something in the next 8-10 weeks. For the rest it will be in to 2027. Good luck to everybody waiting, your persistence will pay off!

With all due respect, what's the point of this post. Just because historically 'something' happened, bears no guarantee to the future. Playing devil's advocate, perhaps the last two courses for Ayr were the last for the next two years! I've been in the process for over 3 years, had final selection August 25. I know several drivers and station supervisors at Ayr and am consistently told Ayr is over crewed. Failing a change in Sundays APOTWW, don't hold your breath.

I believe it's the same as me, Waiting for the invite to the assessment centre in Glasgow for the first stage tests so includes the Bourdon etc. Waiting myself and i believe the same for Mihigo26 and some others for actual dates to be invited to do it.

Hello, I am new to the forum. I have applied to the Airdrie and Yoker depots for the trainee train driver posts for Scotrail that came out in Feb/March'26. I received an email in April to say it would be another 6 weeks before I would hear if I was successful. That date has been and gone. Just wondering if anyone has received an email about the next stage for these depots? Many thanks

The point really was just to say that courses are being arranged mate and combined with the amount in the talent bank I personally don’t think that will be the last course for Ayr but only time will tell! Hope you hear something soon, it’s certainly a long slog.

Hello all, I have a start date on the 7th of September for Yoker. I applied back in march 24 and completed all testing in October 25. Completed my medical at the end of May 26. Anyone else starting in September?

Congratulations! Good news to hear that things are still moving! When did they contact you to offer the start date? Was it by phone or email?

It was the 22nd of May and was over the phone. They get you booked in for a medical the week or so after they first contact you. Disclosure and medical ticked off just waiting for references to be signed off.

There’s around 15-20 starting before the end of the year at yoker so you won’t be alone

I’m based there and was talking to a manager about it. No idea about other depots.
I would take that with a pinch of salt. 15-20 is a lot of drivers to take on in a short space of time, is there 15-20 DI’s at Yoker? We were told by a driver at Ayr that there would be 12 of us in training before the end of the year, so far there’s only 2 that we know of

Good stuff. Looks like they are running courses close together then going off some of the other posters. One a week apart

Hi,

I’ve applied the same as you but after the 6 weeks I got an email saying.

“Due to the high volume of applications across a number of locations, our initial shortlisting stage is taking longer than originally anticipated. As a result, the timing of progress may vary depending on your chosen location and we will aim to provide an update within 12 weeks”

You sure you’ve not missed an email from them? I got that email on the 5th of May.

Cheers

Just got the email to book the assessment centre. Only one date given and its next week and is extremely short notice. Going to be impossible to get the day off for it. Dunno what to do? Should I email the recruitment team and ask to be put in the next assessment centre or is that not wise?

No can do unfortunately. My boss is off on special leave, two colleagues off on annual leave and another off sick. I'm literally the only one in my team and the covering manager is very likely to refuse the request.
If there's no way you can get the day off and cant phone in sick, only option is to email recruitment for another date.

Fair enough man understandable, it’s hard one to get around this cause you don’t know roughly when the next date will be. If you can’t have a flexi day or that then maybe just bite the bullet and ask for another date. It’ll happen just a question of when I suppose.

Pretty much every stage of the assessment centres is like this, you won’t get much notice I’m afraid
