I have a date of 26th/27th sep for online induction the 30th sep starting at atrium court. Not received a contract or anything through yet so not sure if those dates are set in stone.

Is Bathgate much further for you? Congrats on getting an offer too!
That’s great well done on getting it.

Bathgate is double the mileage than Airdrie, however I don’t want to turn down what I’m offered. What about you?

Completely opposite for me. MMI was far more relaxed. More of a chat in my opinion.

Questions can be asked at either.
Hi Ross,

Can you send me a PM. I’ve been trying to get in contact but been unable to send a mail.

Thanks.

Remember as well, the traction and knowledge you’re going to learn means that a transfer to Airdrie in the future wouldn’t be a massive challenge. Then again I’ve seen countless staff go to their second choice and they enjoy it so much they just stay there.

That’s very true. Never thought of that. Yeah I’ve heard that too!
I believe Bathgate drivers only do Bathgate to Edinburgh, Helensburgh and Milngaavie? Any others that I’ve missed?

Besides the 334’s and the routes they do, Bathgate drivers also sign the 318 and 320 units as some get stabled there overnight, running out of service Bathgate to Airdrie and vice versa. So I’d imagine their route knowledge is a little more than that.

Do Bathgate drivers sign all the way to Helensburgh? I’d have thought it stops at Dalmuir? If they do though, I’d think it’s likely that they sign the Balloch branch as well.

Bathgate sign all the way from Helensburgh to Edinburgh Waverley, inclusive of the Balloch & Milngavie branches.

Bathgate and Airdrie drivers sign the exact same routes and traction. There's nothing to learn after an inter depot move apart from the location of your new locker.

ETA they also sign the Balloch branch for plenty of fun/trouble on a summers evening during the school holidays.

Hello, first poster here!

I've applied a few times for trainee drivers with ScotRail but this one (March 24 application) is the first time I've heard anything back (27th May 24) this was the same "we'll be in touch" email others have received.

From what I've read thus far it's still very much a waiting game, with some people hearing back quickly and others waiting ages.

I've got a contact who is a train driver manager for a separate TOC (who is ex ScotRail) and they've advised me to practice the dots/ bourbon tests ect.

I was wondering would it be appropriate to at this point speak to drivers/ managers at my local station (Stirling) and is there any other ways I can prepare myself?

Thanks in advance!

Hi all

first time posting. I applied for the trainee driver post in march. I passed all the online questionnaires (psychometric and SJT) and told by the head of resourcing (on may 14th) that I’ve met the standard and they would be in touch shortly.

i’ve still not heard anything yet. i’m based in Glasgow. should I message them back or just remain patient?

cheers!

Hang tight. 4000 applied in the march opening. 1500 got through the 1st online tests. They need to get through those and they're not a huge team.

Is the DMI the only time we can ask the interviewer questions about the job (pension options, etc)?

Definitely ask any questions at the DMI interview. In terms of pension options, there is only one offered by ScotRail - the Railway Pension Scheme, which is a defined contribution scheme (often referred to as a "Final salary" pension) and arguably the best pension scheme in the UK.

Hi all, have passed first lot of assessments now waiting on date for MMI. Quick question, I'm Montrose. Do I visit nearest large station before this interview and if so, which station would be best? Many thanks

Hi guys

I had my DMI interview on Tuesday - they said if I haven’t heard back soon to chase the recruitment team up - for the guys that have recently passed their DMI, how long until you were told that you had passed?

Hi guys,

Just received my email saying I passed the 1st set of tests and that i'm on to the interview. For those that passed, what kind of questions were they asking? And how much of it was knowledge based abiut scotrail? I'm going to endeavour to get as much info I can on the company naturally, but if I could get a wee heads up on what to expect it would be greatly appreciated. Want to go in as loaded as I can. Thank you guys.

Hello guys, question for those who are starting their course in September, have you received a contract of employment or an unconditional offer yet? Thanks

That's a very good question. I got a similar email saying I'd passed the first round of classroom tests. So I assume it's interview next

I’m a March 24 applicant and sat first written assessment July. I got an email back eventually after a long wait saying I have passed and on to the next stage which they told us on the day was the managers face to face interview. I was very surprised because I thought I‘d messed up the counting and the dials tests because I found them a lot harder this time round than on my previous attempt. I got all anxious and lost my place during the counting and circling test and had to guess the last two answers. If anyone wants to compare for reassurance, I only got 24 of the dials questions done and managed around 7 or 8 lines of dots per page.

At the end of the tests they said that they will try to make the interview at your nearest depot location if possible but to bear in mind this could take place at any depot in Scotland because of how busy they are. I bet they send me to Stranraer or somewhere lol.

Also as a nice wee bonus I caught covid at the assessment!!

Hi,

I found out on the 18th of June I had passed the first paper assessments in Glasgow and they would be in touch with details of interview.

Still not heard anything back. I know it has only been around a month and a half but I wanted to check as the assessment people said things could move quickly if successful on the assessment day and to prep ASAP from finding out our result.

Is anyone else in a similar position? Or have had a similar wait between paper tests and interview? I understand they have lots of applications so I’m guessing it is to do with that.

Thanks

Hi guys,

Can anyone confirm if you do a second Situational exercise at the 2nd assessment day? Or is it just the initial online ones you do?

Can anyone confirm how many competence/STAR questions they normally ask at a DMI?

Also, are they expecting you to break down the STAR part of your answer (e.g. Saying ‘the Situation was…….’, followed by ‘the task I faced was……….’)?
