Congratulations.

How did you find it today?

Harder than I thought in relation to the computer tests however I graded A for them all so must be a lot of room for error. I went out of the lines on the hand to eye coordination test loads. The interview is easier than the DMI.

Is there any weight limit on being a driver. I am over weight but it doesn’t affect my daily job as a coach driver. Just wondered if there was any before I go and apply for the trainee driver job.

They usually have guidance in terms of BMI, and some TOCs don’t like to go above this, however it’s discretionary generally speaking. As long as you’re healthy and it doesn’t impact your ability to move freely etc you should be okay. My BMI is high, but I was okay when I went for my medical. Expect to have the doctor give you some lifestyle advice etc. As a coach driver you’ll be moving about the same amount as a train driver and won’t be any less active I’d imagine. With me, I’m going from quite an active job (so can confidently say I’m healthy in that respect), to one which will of course be less active, therefore I’m likely going to naturally put on weight, which was a concerns for my medical, but it wasn’t a big issue. I’ve semi-promised to lose half a stone though :).

Well done on getting through. These computer tests really give me the fear. It’s good to hear someone give an honest and frank account . Had visions of going out lines and failing

I think it’s not necessarily a bad thing to stray from the lines, as long as you get back on track quickly.

Well done to the ones passing the final MMI. Great achievement.
Question for everyone recently who’ve just had their MMI prior to being offered a medical or the ones who have recently started their training.... have the others that you’ve chatted to on the day of interview all been in for the same station ie edinburgh or Glasgow etc? Or do they seem to be bringing a varied amount of people in from various stations? Thanks

Hey guys, congrats to those progressing through the process!
Better luck next time to others!

I've submitted my application on the 8th of May and I know the closing date is the 31st.
Just wanted to ask if anyone's applied for the role within May that's had any contact from scotrail?

Sorry if this has been asked if scowered the forum and can't see anything. As you can tell I'm absolutely chapping at the bit checking my inbox every day!

You probably won't hear anything until you are invited to the assessment centre (if you are successful at the initial application stage). For myself, this was 5 weeks after the closing date. It's unlikely you'll receive an acknowledgement of your submitted app - think this will be due to the volume of applications they receive.

You can set up a profile on the Abellio website that allows you to see the progress of your application, but the information is limited. If you don't hear anything within 8 weeks of the closing date you will have been unsuccessful.

But definitely keep checking your email (and the junk/spam)!

Can someone give me clarity on a medical matter please? I have a medical next werk for a trainee train driver role. Since the age of 12 i have been on a antihistamine for hayfever. I controls it and i have never really thought much more of it.
Last night, for the first time ever i read the box which says it may cause drowsiness as a side effect. It hasnt for the 30 years i have been on it. Obviously this will come up next week but is anyone aware if this will be an issue with regards my potential new employment?

They will judge all conditions on an individual basis. It depends on whether this medication is ‘banned’ by the railway (I doubt it is given how common it’s likely to be). It may be worth getting a doctors note to verify what you’re saying if possible, or look at changing medication? There’s probably other meds out there which don’t cause drowsiness, but have the same effect on hay fever. They will ask about any medication for the benefit of the D&A testing anyway so make sure you explain what you’re taking, just in case it throws up any false positives for illegal substances (very much doubt this but you never know, and I was asked if I’d taken anything within 2-weeks of the medical, right down to a Lemsip sachet I had a week prior!).

Worst case scenario, the condition this medication treats, in the grand scheme of things, is quite minor, therefore I’m sure there’s ways around it.

One thing I would advise if I were in your shoes; Be honest, but don’t say you noticed it causes drowsiness. It may not be an issue and if you haven’t become drowsy, why would you know about the medication causing drowsiness as a side effect? Especially if it’s off the shelf medication. You don’t want to sow unnecessary seeds.

In my email I got about my second assessment it says I'll be doing three computer tests and the MMI. However in the practice materials there is also a section about writing a report. The example given is about a late doctor's appointment and I have to write to the doctor explaining why I wasn't on time. If anyone who has been to the second assessment day could let me know, is this still part of it that has somehow been overlooked on my invitation.?

Not required for scorrail. You however do a situational judgement exercise first. Therevis nothing to worry about that though.
