Out of interest, how many Trainee courses are going through the system just now and what stage are they at?

The internals are all starting to get their responses back. I'm sure their deadline was two weeks before externals.

I'm sure the company agreed to 64 new drivers per year so that would be 8 courses. Obv next year would be different if they are taking on 100-128.

From the STV website:
A rail union has heavily criticised a letter sent out to hundreds of unsuccessful candidates who applied for 100 new train driver positions with ScotRail.
The letter, which detailed the role requirement and suggested the potential recruits consider future applications more carefully, was sent after thousands applied for the jobs last month.
While the RMT claimed the letter had been sent to 20,000 unsuccessful applicants, ScotRail said it had only been sent to 200 internal applicants and also admitted the response "could have been more personalised and constructive".
A ScotRail spokesman also told STV News one-to-one feedback would be offered to the internal candidates who were unsuccessful in their applications.
RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: "In my 30 years as a trade union official I have never seen a letter so bluntly designed as a wholesale kick in the teeth for an unsuccessful job applicant and which is so clearly engineered to undermine an individual’s self-esteem.
"The points about 'understanding the job' and 'underestimating responsibilities' are an exercise in treating both the internal and external applicants as a bunch of idiots and Abellio should be ashamed of themselves and should be apologising to each and every one of the people who had this insulting communication delivered through their post box.
"Yes, these are decent jobs on good pay and conditions thanks to strong trade union organisation and the volume of applicants reflects that but those who have taken the time and trouble to apply should be treated with respect not contempt.
"It is maybe no surprise Abellio are one of those companies acting as cheerleaders for the Governments new raft of anti-trade union laws.
"It’s about time the Scottish Government woke up to the union-busting and anti-worker nature of the outfit they awarded the Scotrail contract and started taking some notice of what they are up to."

Previously ScotRail said it wanted "enthusiastic, reliable candidates with excellent attention spans, experience of safety-critical roles and a passion for customer service".
Successful applicants who become trainee drivers will be paid £24,559 in their first year, increasing to £43,212 after probation.

All internal applications were reviewed by a panel of Driver Managers and compared in terms of their presentation, content, quality and responses to the questions.
The application form is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your desire to be successful in becoming a train driver. In this respect, your application was not considered to be of the high standard that we require in terms of either:
- The content of the application form was below the general standard. - Transferable key skills and abilities were not identified. The form did not clearly demonstrate your understanding of the train driver role or the transferable skills that are required.
The panel felt that the content and/or the transferable skills mentioned in the application form did not fully demonstrate the level of commitment or suitability to this role.
Should you wish to apply in the future, I suggest the following:
- Start by researching the role of driver, gain an understanding of the skills and qualities required and clearly identify how you match these. - Consider the effort you put into the process and how much you want the role. - Don't underestimate the role or its responsibilities. - Where the application form asks for information, ensure that you respond to the question appropriately and directly.

When contacted by STV News, a ScotRail spokesman said: "Our recent driver recruitment campaign was an extraordinary success. Almost 25,000 people applied to join our business and help us transform Scotland’s railway.
"With such a large number of applications, we had to get information out to people as quickly as possible regarding the outcome of their application.
"This letter went to around 200 internal candidates whose application was unsuccessful, while a further 130 existing staff have progressed to the next assessment stages.
"We appreciate the letter could have been more personalised and constructive. That is why today we will be sending another letter to the 200 unsuccessful internal candidates offering one-to-one feedback."

Whilst I agree feedback to all is impossible, the application process is managed through an online recruitment process, some of which I imagine is automated (initial sift). You would think it would be very simple to implement an application status flag, if you drop from the process at any point it could be updated and an automated response generated. Impersonal but something's better than nothing IMO.

No, Scotrail said on 9th oct it will take 4-6 weeks to let all successful candidates know, so if you haven't heard from them in another 4 weeks, it probably means you've not been succesful

Why don't we put evetbody's sleepiness nights to ease and confirm our application or application's result's?
I applied for Glasgow Central/west as external applicant around the 15th September and have not received any further response.

Application went in around the same time for Scotland East and haven't heard back. I have already done the assessments though - not overly concerned as it will take an age to do the sift.
Given the closing date was 30th September then you should still be waiting for a response. Don't give up hope yet. Scotrail are slow at everything these days! They were awarded the franchise 12months ago and we still don't have new uniforms! And they can't even get payslips out on time either!
How is it that you haven't heard back, but you've done the assessments? O_o

I'm in the same boat as you, except I applied on the 28th of September for Glasgow Central.
I'll keep you posted if anything changes. Could you do the same for me?
Just to let you know I got an email last week telling me I had been successful with my application and was invited for the 1st part of psychometric testing on Thurs which I have passed. I've applied for Ayr and Glasgow but it was Ayr I was successful with.

Wow, quick turnaround! When did you apply DanDan?
Hi Jen, I applied on 14th Sept. It was just the written parts of the test we had to do on Thurs but the next part will be the managers interview. I thought it would be the computer part of the test. We were told our results the next day but warned it could be a couple weeks till we find out when the next stage will actually be.

THey have up to 225 candidates per post to choose from.
I was more after the numbers left for the manager interview stage, the stage after the assessment is passed.

I've been told next part is Manager Interview so I have no idea as the assessment material sent out had a whole lot more tests to practice so maybe they are cutting it down further with face to face interviews before moving on to more tests?

You only get the rest of the tests if you are successful at interview.
