Do Abellio still use the same recruitment process that First did? Submit application, 2 online tests, phone interview, part 1 of assessment centre etc etc etc etc.....

It must have changed jydo, I never had a phone interview. I went for dm interview first then all the assessments on the same day plus mmi at the end.

Thanks for your reply. Thats quite interesting that they seem to have changed the process, I pressume they have changed some of the assessments? Group Bourdon?? cables & dials?? Memory/glopp test?

No this is just the additional first group tests that are no longer applicable

Do abellio use enhanced scoring like greater anglia and the dfft test?

I imagine and hope their recruitment process is better than first group which is painstakingly slow and uncertain

Yes their way was defo a bit of a drawn out affiar lol. Sorry but im not sure what you mean? You still do GB, glopp, high tone low tone & cables/dials? A DM interview to begin with seems strange??

Been working on the application all night. I'm struggling myself with 1 or 2 boxes. Actually just 1 now, adapting to a new situation.

Maybe they skip the interview as most of the questions on the application were ones I was asked in the interview I failed earlier this year.

The application form is a bit comprehensive but luckily (due to my current job) I can relate to alot of stuff they are looking for. Im worried about getting time off work if Im fortunate enough to get past the initial first phase.....

Good luck to everyone with their application, this is my 2nd life and last throw of the dice, dont over think things and end up having sleepless nights worrying about things.......thats my advice :D

Hey Donachie,

I went through selection from June to August and passed every stage including the Driver Manager and Multi-Modal interview. I got an email last week saying I wasn't being moved forward or placed on the reserve list. No explanation given. Complete waste of three months' of my life.

"Hi,

I note your comments. We do not move every candidate who gets the final stage of the process. We have other candidates from this recruitment campaign who like yourself, are not moving forward or being retained in a reserve pool. Application, interview and assessment are all taken into consideration by the employing managers prior to any decisions being made. You are correct, you have successfully completed and passed the full train driver assessment which is valid for 3 years and is recognised with every UK train operating company.

Regards,

Sandra Cahill
Recruitment Assessor Manager

Seems strange presumably those who score higher are put through perhaps they have a score for the whole process or they out you through for stage two assessments after interview. But if people passed with higher dm interview scores they got put on reserve not sure recruitment is hard to work out

Don't take it personal mate, competition is fierce. As I said in an earlier post Scotrail are desperate to fill these jobs internally to keep the wage bill from rocketing. Probably most of the drivers posts will be taken by internals but this will free up posts further down the corporate ladder.

Hi Paton001,

Thanks for your reply, I was exactly same as you, assessments and interviews June - August .Thought there was a chance of getting a job as phone calls following each stage indicated things were going well. Shattered when the Unsuccessful e mail came through after waiting for news for near on 2 weeks.

There was only 3 of us at stage 2 tests, were you the same ?

Felt it was un fair stating you can not re apply for 6 months .

A least we have a valid test pass but a bit more explanation from recruitment on where application failed would have helped I think. As you say, a lot of time spent travelling and studying for nothing. :(

Regards,
Donachie.

Hey Donachie,

There was two external candidates with me. One worked for Royal Mail and the other for Police Scotland. I don't know if that sheds any light. Assessment was on Tuesday 25th August at 1:30 Pm.

Hi Paton001,

I was the same day as yourself and not the Policeman .

Nice to meet you that day.

Seems we were very unlucky to be "Unsuccessful" yet pass everything.

Hope you have another go, I might ,but think this was really my best and last chance so hard to take at present.

Regards,
Donachie.

Mate,

Don't give up. Out of 2,358 external applicants' we three made it to the final selection. In Febuary we can re-apply. My advice would be to try for Ticket Examiner/Conductor and that way we have an "In" buddy.

Unless you work at Scotrail or are a Conductor/Driver, I wouldn't bother. External candidates' are taken through tge process but not considered...

No, not this time. I think Scotrail are definitely looking for some new blood for these posts. They didn't have to advertise in the press or TV, the website should have been enough to get enough interest. Everybody should have a go!

How many applicants are there usually for a position with Scotrail? I've read varying numbers and understand these will be different for the likes of Glasgow Central to somewhere like Wick but can any previous applicants shed some light?
By advertising these positions so much I cant help but think the recruitment process will take an age due to the volume of applicants the HR dept will have to sift through before assessments and interviews even take place! With them stating that only successful applicants will hear back I'll be relying on this forum to know when the sift has been done and put me out of my misery. Unless the unlikely happens and I progress to the 1st stage of the process in which case I'll hear from the HR dept. (not holding my breath though)

There were 8 people on my trainee driver course with Scotrail, 4 internal and 4 external.

If you haven't been successful after passing all the tests and with the sheer number of positions available you should contact hr and ask if there is some other reason you've not been considered.

I've literally just been through the selection process last week, passed all of it as did Donachie. I asked the head of HR (Sandra Cahill) why we weren't being put in the reserve list (As we had been assured we woulf if we passed the Assessments) and was told in no uncertain terms' internal candidates' take priority.

This is absolute nonsense. Just to put this to bed for anybody thinking that internals have a better chance than external - it costs scotrail an absolute fortune to hire an internal guard/conductor/ticket examiner and promote them
To a driver. Scotrail have to then replace the position the person left and also have to pay their salary for the training. External candidates training salaries are funded by transport scotland so it is much cheaper for scotrail to hire externals. Also after just going through the selection process myself being an external candidate and being offered a position as a trainee driver , on my course was 5 external and 3 internals and this is usually the ratio for new driver courses. So just to put to bed that you have no chance as an external is rubbish. Sorry to be blunt but if you haven't been put on the reserve list or your application hasn't been taken any further even after passing everything it is simply because there are better candidates than yourself not necessarily internal candidates but also better externals
